U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics\/Handout via Reuters <\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">\u201cThis is a turning point for the labor market,\u201d Heather Long, an economist with the Navy Federal Credit Union, <a onclick=\"_sendArticleBodyInlineLinkClickAnalytics(&#039;https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/2025\/09\/03\/job-opening-data-falls-to-levels-rarely-seen-since-pandemic.html&#039;)\" href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/2025\/09\/03\/job-opening-data-falls-to-levels-rarely-seen-since-pandemic.html\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\">told CNBC Wednesday<\/a>. <\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">\u201cIt\u2019s yet another crack,\u201d she went on, adding the new figures were \u201cunderscoring how this job market is frozen and it\u2019s difficult for anyone to get a job right now.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" data-chromatic=\"ignore\" alt=\"President Donald Trump nominated E.J. Antoni, a chief architect of the controversial Project 2025 blueprint for a second MAGA presidency, as McEntarfer&#8217;s replacement. @realDonaldTrump <\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">The latest stats of course come after Trump <a onclick=\"_sendArticleBodyInlineLinkClickAnalytics(&#039;https:\/\/www.thedailybeast.com\/donald-trump-mocked-for-firing-stats-boss-while-insisting-hes-63\/&#039;)\" href=\"https:\/\/www.thedailybeast.com\/donald-trump-mocked-for-firing-stats-boss-while-insisting-hes-63\/\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\">controversially fired BLS Commissioner Erika McEntarfer<\/a> last month. Her dismissal came after the agency released numbers showing employers had only generated 73,000 new jobs for July, well short of the 109,000 outlined in White House forecasts, and revised its estimate of employment stats for May and June down by more than 250,000. <\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">At the time, Trump slammed McEntarfer for having \u201cRIGGED\u201d those numbers \u201cto make the Republicans, and ME, look bad,\u201d in the face of <a onclick=\"_sendArticleBodyInlineLinkClickAnalytics(&#039;https:\/\/www.thedailybeast.com\/cnbcs-economics-guru-steve-liesman-calls-bs-on-trumps-job-stats-claims-after-sacking-erika-mcentarfer\/&#039;)\" href=\"https:\/\/www.thedailybeast.com\/cnbcs-economics-guru-steve-liesman-calls-bs-on-trumps-job-stats-claims-after-sacking-erika-mcentarfer\/\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\">massive backlash<\/a> to what represented the biggest non-COVID-related drop in more than four decades.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">His decision to replace McEntarfer with E.J.
