If successful, Salford City Council would provide the remaining \u00a31.5m to deliver the project.<\/p>\n<p>The funding is required to pay for \u201ccritical and urgent infrastructure needs\u201d, according to a report to the city council\u2019s cabinet.<\/p>\n<p>The report states that the Lowry, which has seen 20m visitors pass through its doors since 2000, highlights that much of the building\u2019s infrastructure is out of date.<\/p>\n<p>Two escalators prone to breaking down would be replaced with lifts, improving the building\u2019s accessibility, while the venue\u2019s boilers would be replaced to reduce carbon emissions. The Lowry\u2019s fire systems would also be upgraded.<\/p>\n<p>The work would ensure the venue\u2019s \u201ccontinued operation, sustainability, and adaptability for all its communities and evolving audience and visitor needs\u201d, the report adds.<\/p>\n<p>Salford City Council was contacted for comment.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"Salford Quays\u2019 25-year old theatre and cultural venue requires a package of interventions to \u201cprevent closure\u201d.
