This trend is largely driven by Gen Z consumers who expect to cut their 2025 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.independent.co.uk\/news\/world\/americas\/americans-spending-less-summer-vacation-b2789747.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">holiday spending<\/a> by about 23 percent, according to the report.<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, consumers from older generations \u2014 millennials, Gen X and baby boomers \u2014 expect their holiday spending to stay the same or increase this year, the survey shows.<\/p>\n<p>Even with older generations preparing to spend more this winter, economic concerns are still expected to impact holiday spending. About 84 percent of consumers said they\u2019re planning to generally spend less over the next six months, citing \u201crising prices, new tariffs and the higher cost of living,\u201d the report says.<\/p>\n<p>A quarter of Gen Z consumers also said their financial situation is worse today than it was this time last year. This is \u201clikely due to today\u2019s tougher job market combined with rising fixed costs from major life changes and limited savings,\u201d the report said.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/09\/Donald-Trump.jpeg\"  loading=\"lazy\" alt=\"President Donald Trump holds a list of \u2018reciprocal tariffs\u2019 on April 2, which he dubbed \u2018Liberation Day\u2019\" class=\"sc-1mc30lb-0 ggpMaE inline-gallery-btn\"\/><\/p>\n<p>open image in gallery<\/p>\n<p>President Donald Trump holds a list of \u2018reciprocal tariffs\u2019 on April 2, which he dubbed \u2018Liberation Day\u2019 (Getty)<\/p>\n<p>The swing in Gen Z\u2019s spending compared to 2024 is stark, when their projected holiday budgets spiked by 37 percent.<\/p>\n<p>The consulting firm noted it surveyed consumers in June, when there was \u201cmore uncertainty around tariffs, which have since been delayed or paused.\u201d <\/p>\n<p>\u201cEconomic signals continue to shift and, between now and December, purchasing behavior could evolve in response,\u201d the report reads.<\/p>\n<p>President Donald Trump introduced a slew of sweeping tariffs on April 2, calling it<a href=\"https:\/\/www.independent.co.uk\/news\/world\/americas\/us-politics\/trump-tariffs-illegal-court-blocks-b2816838.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"> \u201cLiberation Day\u201d for the U.S.<\/a> Many of those levies were paused or canceled amid negotiations, and Trump <a href=\"https:\/\/www.independent.co.uk\/news\/world\/americas\/us-politics\/trump-tariffs-american-brands-global-sales-b2818395.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">unveiled a new list last month<\/a>.
