{"id":396986,"date":"2025-09-04T10:23:11","date_gmt":"2025-09-04T10:23:11","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/396986\/"},"modified":"2025-09-04T10:23:11","modified_gmt":"2025-09-04T10:23:11","slug":"bbc-verify-live-satellite-images-show-path-of-deadly-sudan-landslide","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/396986\/","title":{"rendered":"BBC Verify Live: Satellite images show path of deadly Sudan landslide"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Satellite imagery shows extent of Sudan landslidepublished at 10:48 British Summer Time<\/p>\n<p>10:48 BST<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-8kvzjk-Contributor etflsgg2\"><strong>Peter Mwai and Thomas Copeland<\/strong><br \/>BBC Verify<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">We have received high-quality satellite imagery showing the area hit by Sunday\u2019s deadly landslide in a remote part of the Darfur region in western Sudan. <\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">The images from the specialist satellite firm Maxar allow us to assess the scale and extent of the landslide.We have matched the satellite imagery to video and pictures of the aftermath <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bbc.com\/news\/live\/cp3e3k2gp10t?post=asset%3A89623e6b-ca6b-42c0-8cd9-655005e6435f#post\" class=\"ssrcss-f6h2dj-InlineLink e1kn3p7n0\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">that we previously verified<\/a> as having been taken from a location south of Tarseen village in the Marra mountains.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">According to Maxar\u2019s analysis of the images \u201cthe debris flow\/landslide damage did not appear to flow through any town centres in the vicinity. However, there is considerable debris in local washes and canyons\u201d.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">This corresponds with what BBC Verify has been seeing in aftermath footage shared on social media.
