almost seven years after it was closed by a rockfall.<\/p>\n<p>The 200-year-old path is set high along cliffs at Salisbury Crags and named after the Radical War, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.scotlandspeople.gov.uk\/help-and-support\/guides\/radical-rising-1820\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-ylk=\"slk:a week of strikes and social unrest that occurred in 1820;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\" class=\"link \">a week of strikes and social unrest that occurred in 1820<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Historic Environment Scotland (HES) plans to reopen part of the route early next year, according to a report to Edinburgh city councillors.<\/p>\n<p>Under the plan, the path between an area called The Hawse to the northern end of South Quarry would be open again.<\/p>\n<p>The Radical Road was closed in September 2018 after 50 tonnes of rock fell from nearby cliffs.<\/p>\n<p>The path overlooks the Scottish Parliament and the Palace of Holyroodhouse, where senior royals stay when they visit the Scottish capital.<\/p>\n<p>Ranger-led guided walks take place along part of the route.<\/p>\n<p>But there have been calls, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bbc.co.uk\/news\/uk-scotland-edinburgh-east-fife-67637909?xtor=AL-72-%5Bpartner%5D-%5Byahoo.north.america%5D-%5Blink%5D-%5Bnews%5D-%5Bbizdev%5D-%5Bisapi%5D\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-ylk=\"slk:including from Ramblers Scotland;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\" class=\"link \">including from Ramblers Scotland<\/a>, for a fuller reopening of the path.<\/p>\n<p>New barriers and signage would be added as part of the partial reopening.<\/p>\n<p>HES looks after the Radical Road and wider landscape.<\/p>\n<p>City of Edinburgh Council&#8217;s transport and environment committee chairman, Stephen Jenkinson, said the local authority welcomed progress being made to reopen the path.<\/p>\n<p>The path got its name from the unemployed west of Scotland weavers who were set to work paving a track round Salisbury Crags &#8211;
