rel="noopener">United are moving for Matheus Cunha and hope to have the Wolverhampton Wanderers star signed soon.

Attacking additions are vital for United, but Amorim will also chase signings between the sticks.

Reports ahead of the January transfer window suggested that <a Heaton will depart United at the end of his contract this summer.

United need to replace both of those goalkeepers, whilst Andre Onana’s poor form means a first-choice stopper may even be wanted.

The Mirror note that United are ‘big admirers’ of Porto goalkeeper Diogo Costa.

United have been linked with Costa in the past, and the presence of Portuguese boss Amorim may only add to that interest.

However, the report states that United can’t meet Costa’s £63million release clause, or challenge Manchester City’s planned £50million offer.

City allegedly see Costa as the ideal replacement for Ederson and incoming sporting director Hugo Viana – who worked with Amorim at Sporting – is ready to pounce.

United seemingly can’t challenge for Costa’s signature right now and may end up facing him in Manchester derbies to come.

Andre Onana future key to any expensive goalkeeping move

We would expect United to sign two goalkeepers to replace Bayindir and Heaton, possibly with an angle towards signing homegrown goalkeepers.

United have eyed Freddie Woodman ahead of his Preston North End contract expiring, whilst Blackburn Rovers stopper Aynsley Pears is on the Old Trafford radar.

Any move for a goalkeeper like Costa would surely depend on Andre Onana, whose form in 2025 has been a major subject of debate.

Onana has attracted Saudi Arabian interest and his poor performances mean United may be tempted to cash in.

The Mirror add that Onana could be sold for around £20million, which would pave the way for a new first-choice stopper to arrive.

United appear to be prioritising funds on Cunha right now, and with no guarantee that Onana will move on, a deal for Costa just doesn’t make sense – even if means seeing him join rivals City.

Manchester United are
