{"id":397280,"date":"2025-09-04T12:54:11","date_gmt":"2025-09-04T12:54:11","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/397280\/"},"modified":"2025-09-04T12:54:11","modified_gmt":"2025-09-04T12:54:11","slug":"frank-mcavennie-says-one-summer-signing-clamped-what-journalists-told-him-about-brendan-rodgers-celtic-future","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/397280\/","title":{"rendered":"Frank McAvennie says one summer signing clamped what journalists told him about Brendan Rodgers&#8217; Celtic future"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><strong>Brendan Rodgers has probably had one of the worst transfer windows over his two spells as a Celtic manager.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.67hailhail.com\/club\/celtic-manager\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Celtic boss<\/a> had a terrible time trying to get signings over the line this summer and after a dreadful transfer deadline day, Rodgers saw one striker leave and a winger come in.<\/p>\n<p>Rodgers was adamant <a href=\"https:\/\/www.67hailhail.com\/opinion\/someone-at-celtic-owes-fans-an-explanation-after-what-brendan-rodgers-said-about-selling-adam-idah\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Adam Idah\u2019s Celtic exit<\/a> could not happen unless another striker was brought to the club this summer.<\/p>\n<p>As it turned out, the Irishman was sold anyway and that led to journalists whispering about Rodgers\u2019 Celtic future, which <a href=\"https:\/\/www.67hailhail.com\/tag\/frank-mcavennie\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Frank McAvennie<\/a> said he just clamped with one summer signing.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"713\" loading=\"lazy\"  src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/09\/GettyImages-2230309104-1024x713.jpg\" alt=\"Brendan Rodgers arrives for the Premier Sports Cup tie between Celtic and Falkirk\" class=\"wp-image-308279\" \/>Photo by Ian MacNicol\/Getty ImagesBrendan Rodgers signing Kelechi Iheanacho silences rumours about Celtic boss\u2019 future<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.67hailhail.com\/transfers\/celtic-manager-brendan-rodgers-message-to-fans-about-the-signing-of-kelechi-iheanacho\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Celtic signed Kelechi Iheanacho<\/a> to make the Nigerian striker the club\u2019s twelfth summer addition.<\/p>\n<p>However, before Rodgers did that, McAvennie shares what journalists were telling him about the Irishman\u2019s future at the club and how he clamped those rumours with one summer signing.<\/p>\n<p>McAvennie said on Let Me Be Frank, \u201cWell, listen, there\u2019s a lot of players moved about. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cTo be honest with you. I honestly thought, and I know the papers because I spoke to a lot of papers guys, newspaper guys, they were thinking Brendan was leaving. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cBut when Iheanacho came in I thought Brendan is staying because he would have made a promise to the boy. And he\u2019ll get him fit. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis is a good time because there\u2019s a break. So Brendan will get him fit or the coaching staff will get him fit. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cI think Brendan will take a week off or something.
