{"id":397861,"date":"2025-09-04T17:58:33","date_gmt":"2025-09-04T17:58:33","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/397861\/"},"modified":"2025-09-04T17:58:33","modified_gmt":"2025-09-04T17:58:33","slug":"british-woman-who-vanished-from-her-sunbed-on-greek-beach-is-found-dead-reveals-heartbroken-husband-who-led-frantic-search-to-find-her","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/397861\/","title":{"rendered":"British woman who vanished from her sunbed on Greek beach is found dead, reveals heartbroken husband who led frantic search to find her"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"mol-para-with-font\">The devastated husband of a British woman who went missing while he was asleep on a sun lounger has said police have found the body of his beloved wife.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mol-para-with-font\">Michele Bourda, 59, suddenly disappeared on August 1 while her husband Chris, 66, slept on Ofrynio beach, in the Greek city of Kavala.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mol-para-with-font\">When he woke up, Mr Bourda started frantically looking for his wife, whose belongings had remained on the sun lounger, but she was nowhere to be found.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mol-para-with-font\">The worried husband immediately alerted the authorities, as Mrs Bourda suffered from severe <a style=\"font-weight: bold;\" target=\"_self\" href=\"https:\/\/www.dailymail.co.uk\/news\/depression\/index.html\" id=\"mol-63c855f0-89a8-11f0-9ad5-432dca262264\" rel=\"noopener\">depression<\/a> and anxiety, but said police were \u2018useless\u2019 not starting their search of the water until the evening.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mol-para-with-font\">Today Mr Bourda told the Daily Mail that police officers had finally located his wife\u2019s body, more than a month after she first went missing.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mol-para-with-font\">She was found on a small, privately owned island called Fidonisi, around 40km down the coast from where she was last seen.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mol-para-with-font\">Mrs Bourda\u2019s body is to be formally identified during an autopsy tomorrow.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mol-para-with-font\">A grieving Mr Bourda said: \u2018They have found her body. But I knew this was not the case. She would not have gone off without her money, her glasses or her medication.\u2019<\/p>\n<p class=\"mol-para-with-font\">Pharmacist Mr Bourda once again slammed the police for their lack of urgency in the case and believes while they might not have been able to save his wife, she would have been found earlier.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mol-para-with-font\">He added: \u2018I had only been to the prosecution centre yesterday to complain about how the police and harbour police have handled this. It will be easy to see when I called the telephone line and how long they didn\u2019t do anything for.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mol-para-with-font\">\u2018She had psychological issues. I told them that from the start and they weren\u2019t able to find her.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mol-para-with-font\">\u2018It\u2019s impossible. Nobody did anything to help. Even the chap who saw her in the sea, he lost sight of her.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mol-para-with-font\">\u2018People have not been very nice and they have not treated me well. I thought she was alright, but she wasn\u2019t.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mol-para-with-font\">\u2018Unfortunately, I fell asleep in the sun and I slept and when I woke up I knew instantly something was wrong. I didn\u2019t know then what had happened but I knew something had gone wrong.\u2019<\/p>\n<p class=\"mol-para-with-font\">Mr Bourda said he remains unsure if his wife was purposefully trying to hurt herself.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mol-para-with-font\">When Mrs Bourda disappeared she had left all her belongings &#8211; including her glasses, medication and even her towel &#8211; on the sunlounger.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mol-para-with-font\">Her husband spent weeks searching for his wife of 36 years and claims he was not treated seriously, or kindly, by authorities and locals in the area.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mol-para-with-font\">Mr Bourda previously told the Daily Mail: &#8216;She had seemed quite happy that day. We went for a short swim as it was windy and there were a few waves.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mol-para-with-font\">&#8216;She then ordered a few crepes and said we could have a nice sleep after. Unfortunately I fell asleep first and when I woke up she wasn&#8217;t there.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mol-para-with-font\">&#8216;I quickly ran to the toilet and knocked on the ladies but she wasn&#8217;t in there. I then ran to the beach to look again in the water.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mol-para-with-font\">&#8216;I asked the people behind us if they had seen her, they said no but then later they sent a photograph to the police which had shown us eating crepes in the background.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mol-para-with-font\">&#8216;I then quickly went back to the waiter to say my wife was missing, have you seen her and he started laughing.&#8217;<\/p>\n<p class=\"mol-para-with-font\">It was only after Mr Bourda explained to the waiter that his wife had &#8216;psychological problems and needed to call the police&#8217; that the barman realised the gravity of the situation.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mol-para-with-font\">He then asked for help from a local shopkeeper who rang the police, but officers did not arrive at the scene until two hours later, forcing Mr Bourda to continue his search alone.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mol-para-with-font\">Mr Bourda said that he did not see a single police officer on the beach the day she went missing &#8211; a claim that was echoed by a fellow hotel guest.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mol-para-with-font\">He said: &#8216;The police didn&#8217;t do anything on the day. do happen on that beach and that it can sometimes be dangerous.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mol-para-with-font\">&#8216;I wonder if they have told me if she is alive so other tourists don&#8217;t get scared,&#8217;
