{"id":398408,"date":"2025-09-04T22:46:14","date_gmt":"2025-09-04T22:46:14","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/398408\/"},"modified":"2025-09-04T22:46:14","modified_gmt":"2025-09-04T22:46:14","slug":"king-charles-thanked-by-birmingham-bin-strikers-for-acknowledgement-with-little-gesture","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/398408\/","title":{"rendered":"King Charles thanked by Birmingham bin strikers for \u2018acknowledgement\u2019 with \u2018little\u2019 gesture"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>King Charles has been thanked by striking bin workers in Birmingham for his &#8220;little&#8221; gesture while visiting the city. <\/p>\n<p>The monarch was in the Second City to officially open the Midland Metropolitan University Hospital and meet a host of patients, volunteers and clinical staff.<\/p>\n<p>Streets in Birmingham are currently being buried under piles of rubbish that have gone uncollected as bin workers continue to strike in protest of proposed pay cuts.  <\/p>\n<p>The Unite union said the council told the bin workers they would face pay cuts of up to \u00a38,000, which amounted to as much as a quarter of some staff&#8217;s wages.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" id=\"46305\" data-rm-shortcode-id=\"bb73b3c1f0558d879583d829173fbb5d\" data-rm-shortcode-name=\"rebelmouse-image\" class=\"rm-shortcode rm-lazyloadable-image \" lazy-loadable=\"true\" src=\"data:image\/svg+xml,%3Csvg%20xmlns='http:\/\/www.w3.org\/2000\/svg'%20viewBox='0%200%202000%201500'%3E%3C\/svg%3E\" data-runner-src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/09\/king-charles.jpg\" width=\"2000\" height=\"1500\" alt=\"King Charles\"\/><\/p>\n<p>King Charles has been thanked by striking Birmingham bin workers for &#8216;acknowledging&#8217; them<\/p>\n<p> | <\/p>\n<p>GETTY<\/p>\n<p>While the King has maintained his constitutional duty of remaining neutral in political matters, demonstrating workers were nonetheless grateful for his &#8220;acknowledgement&#8221; during the visit.<\/p>\n<p>During the visit, the King was seen briefly waving from the window of his car at assembled protesters from the Unite union behind a police cordon outside the hospital.<\/p>\n<p>While it remains unclear if the King was deliberately gesturing towards the demonstrators, workers who had gathered with flags and banners celebrated the gesture.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;He gave us a little wave. when asked about his own journey with the illness.  <\/p>\n<p>The monarch added that &#8220;half the problem is detecting it in time,&#8221; and said doctors are &#8220;better at dealing&#8221; with cancer. <\/p>\n<p>&#8220;There\u2019s always hope down the road,&#8221; he said with a warm smile.  <\/p>\n<p>As the King\u2019s departed from Second City, the dispute between bin workers and the Birmingham City Council continues to rumble on. <\/p>\n<p>A ballot held in June saw 97 per cent of workers voting in favour of more strike action on a 75 per cent turnout, according to Unite, meaning the industrial action is set to continue until Christmas. <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"King Charles has been thanked by striking bin workers in Birmingham for his &#8220;little&#8221;
