Mansetti, which won the King’s Plate with apprentice Moran aboard, will run in the $400,000 Prince of Wales Stakes on Tuesday at Fort Erie Racetrack. Mansetti is the early 2-1 favourite in the seven-horse field.<\/p>\n
The decision to run Mansetti in the second jewel of the Canadian thoroughbred racing Triple Crown wasn’t a surprise.<\/p>\n
Last week, trainer Kevin Attard said all signs pointed to Mansetti racing in Fort Erie pending a final training session on dirt, the surface the 1 3\/16-mile Prince of Wales will be run on.<\/p>\n
“It’s a different surface (than the synthetic track at the King’s Plate) but I don’t think it will matter with him because he\u2019s such a talented horse, he doesn\u2019t seem concerned,” Moran said following Mansetti’s workout Tuesday at Fort Erie.<\/p>\n
Moran isn’t getting too caught up in the Triple Crown run, adding he’ll rely on the horse to do its job. <\/p>\n
\u201cWe\u2019re just going to take it one step at a time,\u201d said Moran. \u201cYou definitely need a special kind of horse if you want to have a shot at the Triple Crown, and I think we\u2019ve got one here with Mansetti. <\/p>\n
“We\u2019ve already got one race out of the way, now we\u2019re looking for the second, and he\u2019s got a great chance, so we\u2019ll see what happens next Tuesday.\u201d<\/p>\n
Attard trainees Dewolf (7-2) and Faber (5-1) will also run Tuesday. Rounding out the field will be Scorching (3-1, trained by John Charalambous), Runaway Again (10-1, trained by Sid Attard), Ashley\u2019s Archer (10-1, trained by Mark Casse), and Humber River (12-1, trained by Bob Tiller). <\/p>\n
The final leg of the Canadian Triple Crown, the Breeders’ Stakes, is set for Sept. 28 on the turf course at Toronto’s Woodbine Racetrack.<\/p>\n
