{"id":398826,"date":"2025-09-05T02:33:14","date_gmt":"2025-09-05T02:33:14","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/398826\/"},"modified":"2025-09-05T02:33:14","modified_gmt":"2025-09-05T02:33:14","slug":"red-devils-agreed-to-sign-55m-tottenham-target-but-deal-collapsed-for-two-key-reasons","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/398826\/","title":{"rendered":"Red Devils &#8216;agreed&#8217; to sign \u00a355m Tottenham target but deal collapsed for two key reasons"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>According to reports, Manchester United reached an \u2018agreement\u2019 over signing Antoine Semenyo in the summer amid \u2018interest\u2019 from Tottenham Hotspur.<\/p>\n<p>In the summer, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.football365.com\/manchester-united\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>Man Utd<\/strong><\/a>\u2018s first focus was on overhauling their attack and they invested around \u00a3200m to sign Benjamin Sesko, Bryan Mbeumo and Matheus Cunha.<\/p>\n<p>United made this a priority as they were toothless in attack last season and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.football365.com\/tag\/antoine-semenyo\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>Semenyo<\/strong> <\/a>was mentioned as a potential alternative before they settled on Mbeumo and Cunha as their preferred No.10 targets.<\/p>\n<p>25-year-old Semenyo enjoyed a breakout season for Bournemouth in 2024\/25, grabbing eleven goals and five assists in the Premier League.<\/p>\n<p>Semenyo has also sparkled at the start of this campaign and has three goal involvements in three matches, though journalist Duncan Castles claims he came close to joining Man Utd in the summer.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAntoine Semenyo at Bournemouth, we can tell you, was aggressively targeted by Man Utd, starting back in March,\u201d<a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.footballtransfers.com\/en\/transfer-news\/uk-premier-league\/2025\/09\/exclusive-man-utd-transfer-news-antoine-semenyo-duncan-castles-the-transfers-podcast\" target=\"_blank\"> Castles said on The Transfers podcast.<\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong>READ:\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.football365.com\/news\/opinion-man-utd-midfielders-transfers-mistake-manuel-ugarte-ruben-amorim-baleba\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Now or never for Manuel Ugarte to fill Man Utd and Amorim\u2019s massive hole<\/a><br \/><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>\u201cBoth Omar Berrada and Jason Wilcox had direct conversations with Bournemouth about signing the forward, who had scored 11 goals last season.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cDuring those conversations, United, I\u2019m told, said they would pay no more than \u00a355m for the player.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThey used the same strategy as with Cunha and Mbeumo in that they agreed personal terms with Semenyo before attempting to agree a fee with Bournemouth.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThey even had Amorim take him for a meal in London at the end of the season, so that Amorim could judge his character.
