Former Coronation Street actor Colson Smith went up against TV personality and former Miss Liverpool Christine McGuiness on a recent instalment of Celebrity Antiques Road Trip. The celebrity spin-off of the hit BBC<\/a> show sees some of the nation’s favourite celebrities paired up with an antiques expert with the hopes of making a profit at auction for charity.<\/a><\/p>\n Colson and Christine both aimed to come out on top at auction<\/a> as they were in search for a bargain around Cheshire. They started off their journey in Frodsham before jumping in their 1967 a Volkswagen Beetle for a weird and wonderful tour of the surrounding areas before finishing up in Stockport.<\/p>\n Christine, who was paired with Irita Marriot, shocked her competitor with her “incredible” ability to haggle. Within their \u00a3400 budget,<\/a> Christine scooped up several impressive items including a wooden antique tea caddy, a Princess car name label, a glass art deco bowl, a roman vase and a silver mounted leather jug.<\/a><\/p>\n Colson on the other hand, was drawn to more unusual items. When his antiques mentor Hettie Jago<\/a> found out about Christine’s haggling skills, she told the soap star to “up his game”.<\/p>\n Speaking about Christine, Irita told the team: “She’s incredible at haggling she was born to do this.” Christine joked: “I’ve got one of those faces that they can’t say no to Colson.”<\/p>\n Throughout their tour of Cheshire, Colson scooped up<\/a> a rotary knife device, a shoe repairing machine, a film projector and a huge vintage oil can.<\/p>\n But when it came to auction, Colson’s spending proved to be unsuccessful as he failed to make a profit. He turned to the auction room and said: “You’re all tight in here aren’t you” as they were not bidding on his items.<\/p>\n When Christine’s art deco bowl made her \u00a370 profit, Colson couldn’t help but ask: “What’s going on?” He joked the bidders “all hate him” for not wanting him to triumph in the competition.<\/p>\n Things failed to improve for the Yorkshire-born actor, making a \u00a330 loss on his shoe machine and a \u00a310 loss on his film projector. He said: “Is everyone against me in here?”<\/p>\n Christine’s roman vase was the cherry on the cake for Colson, who was baffled by his opponent’s huge profit. After paying just \u00a370 for the item, Christine walked away with \u00a3220.<\/p>\n In the end, from the \u00a3400 they each started the show with, Colson made a loss,<\/a> with \u00a3357.78. However, Christine proved to have grasped the talent for selecting unique, valuable items as she scooped up a whopping \u00a3512.80.<\/p>\n She said: “I really enjoyed it, I’m really happy that I made some good profits.” Colson hid his disappointment, joking with Hettie that all he wanted to do was “have fun”.<\/p>\n He said: “We had fun didn’t we, that’s the most important bit is having fun.” He added: “I just had a certain style of things that I liked and clearly other people don’t like them I guess.”<\/p>\n Colson has since spoken about <\/a>his experience on the BBC show on a podcast he co-hosts alongside fellow Corrie actors Jack P Shepherd and Ben Price.<\/a><\/p>\n The stars erupted in laughter as Colson revealed he didn’t fare too well on the BBC episode. He said: “I made a loss and the show was for charity.”<\/p>\n Jack and Ben were confused as he revealed he bought a film projector and a cobblers shoe stretcher. He added: “It gets worse. I got a big tub of lubricant which looked cool and arty.
