\n The new timetable\u00a0\u2013 which comes into effect in December \u2013\u00a0is believed to be the biggest timetable transformation in more than a decade.\n<\/p>\n
\n READ MORE:\u00a0<\/strong>John Swinney responds to concerns ‘Saltire being hijacked by far right’<\/a>\n<\/p>\n \n There will be five more LNER trains running per weekday from Edinburgh<\/a> Waverley to London King’s Cross, while travel time between Edinburgh and London will be cut to around four hours and 10 minutes on many of the faster services.\n<\/p>\n \n Elsewhere in Scotland, LNER will operate four services from Aberdeen<\/a> to London King’s Cross each weekday, which will also call at additional stations in England.\n<\/p>\n \n The LNER daily direct service between Inverness<\/a> and London King’s Cross is also set to call at more destinations.\n<\/p>\n \n Commenting, David Horne, managing director at LNER, said:\u00a0\u201cThe new timetable will enable us to serve many destinations more frequently and guarantee thousands of extra seats each day where they are needed most, providing customers with more choice when it comes to greener and more sustainable journeys. \u00a0\u00a0\n<\/p>\n \n \u201cAcross our route, we have recruited hundreds of additional colleagues, from drivers to onboard crews and station teams, in readiness for the major change.\n<\/p>\n \n \u201cAs an industry, we\u2019ve been preparing for many years, and we continue to work together to deliver the biggest timetable change in more than a decade for our customers and the communities we serve.\u201d \u00a0\n<\/p>\n \n LNER said the new timetable will allow for 60,000 extra seats per week, which is almost enough to fill Edinburgh’s Murrayfield Stadium.\n<\/p>\n \n The announcement was welcomed by the Edinburgh Chamber of Commerce, which said it “supports good economic growth” for the city and “strengthens key connections for business<\/a>, tourism and investment”.\n<\/p>\n \n READ MORE:\u00a0<\/strong>John Swinney insists ‘action being taken’ following Supreme Court gender ruling<\/a>\n<\/p>\n \n Liz McAreavey, chief executive at Edinburgh Chamber of Commerce, added: \u201cThis is a welcome announcement for Edinburgh and Scotland.\n<\/p>\n \n \u201cEnhancing the already strong connectivity that Edinburgh enjoys between our two capitals and major economic centres will deliver faster, more frequent, and more sustainable rail services directly into the heart of our city.\u201d\n<\/p>\n \n Other services operating on the East Coast Main Line will also have an updated timetable in December.\n<\/p>\n \n Cross Country, TransPennine Express, and Lumo have all reported changes to their timetables, with TransPennine Express also announcing extra trains.\n<\/p>\n \n The train company said it would be running more services between Edinburgh Waverley, East Linton, Dunbar<\/a>, Reston, Berwick, Alnmouth, Morpeth, and Newcastle every day.\n<\/p>\n \n Meanwhile, budget train firm Lumo is launching a new service<\/a> between Glasgow Queen Street<\/a> and London King’s Cross, running one train a day.\n<\/p>\n
