LONDON, Ky. (FOX 56<\/a>) \u2014 London Mayor Randall Weddle expects no surprises when it comes to the outcome of Friday\u2019s impeachment hearing.<\/p>\n

\u201cThere\u2019s no doubt in my mind that they\u2019re going to impeach me. They\u2019ve got the people to do it,\u201d Weddle told FOX 56.<\/p>\n

It will take a unanimous vote from the city council to remove him from office, which\u2014by all accounts\u2014isn\u2019t going to be hard to do.<\/p>\n

Former council member Stacy Benge resigned from the council last week. He was the only council member to vote against the motion to bring 14 charges against the mayor, including violating proper procedure in dismissing members of the London Housing Authority and harassment claims from city employees.<\/p>\n

Weddle told FOX 56 that he hasn\u2019t broken any laws or done anything unethical since being in office, but admitted he has faults.<\/p>\n

\n

\u201cI\u2019m not going to say that I have not done things during those attacks that I probably should have stayed quiet,\u201d Weddle said. \u201cThat intensified the heat on me with these people. But I truly believe that I\u2019m human. We all fall short of the glory, and we get weak sometimes. But this is about people that have had power in this city for 16, 20, 30 years. And I\u2019m the new guy coming in.\u201d<\/p>\n

Despite calls for Weddle\u2019s impeachment, the mayor still has a base of supporters who are circulating a petition to keep him in office.<\/p>\n

\n

\u201cOut of 12,000 people in the City of London, 2,000 people vote. That\u2019s it. It\u2019s historic, go back and look at the numbers. 1,600 people have already said, stop this madness. \u2018Do not vote this mayor out. We voted him in and we want him to stay,\u2019\u201d Weddle said.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

FOX 56 spoke with John Hammons, a London Resident who was out gathering signatures on the petition on Thursday evening.<\/p>\n

Hammons urged community members to support the mayor, saying, \u201cWhether you\u2019re in city, county, whatever you are, come out and stand up for Mayor Weddle\u2026 He was there through the tornadoes; he was there through all the disasters that have went on. He has helped; he\u2019s gave. And this man, you can\u2019t beat him. I will bend over backwards to help him. And he would do the same for any of us in our community,\u201d Hammons said as he urged community members to support the mayor.<\/p>\n

Weddle told FOX 56 that he feels like he\u2019s the victim of a witch hunt. But at the end of the day, he said it\u2019s the people of London who are being hurt the most.<\/p>\n

\n

\u201cYou know how many employees today as the day was getting done, came up here, prayed with me, hugged me, told me they love me? My heart breaks for them. And it breaks for this community because these are good people here and their voices are not being heard,\u201d Weddle added.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

If Weddle does end up getting removed from office, he said that doesn\u2019t mean his political career is over.<\/p>\n

\n

\u201cI\u2019m running for mayor again because I love London. I don\u2019t take the paycheck. My family hasn\u2019t gained one thing since I\u2019ve been here\u2026 You guys are going to see that I\u2019m going to win. It is not what is being portrayed,\u201d he continued.<\/p>\n

The impeachment hearing will take place at 9 a.m. on Friday, Sept. 5 at the Laurel County Judicial Center. Council members said it was moved for security reasons.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n
