{"id":400418,"date":"2025-09-05T16:33:17","date_gmt":"2025-09-05T16:33:17","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/400418\/"},"modified":"2025-09-05T16:33:17","modified_gmt":"2025-09-05T16:33:17","slug":"what-went-right-this-week-the-good-news-that-matters-2","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/400418\/","title":{"rendered":"What went right this week: the good news that matters"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>                                    Martha\u2019s Rule rolled out across England <\/p>\n<p>Families of patients at all acute hospitals in England can now seek a second opinion if they\u2019re concerned about the care their relatives are receiving, after Martha\u2019s Rule was rolled out nationwide.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The patient safety scheme is named after Martha Mills, who died of sepsis in 2021, aged 13. Her mother Merope campaigned for patients and their loved ones to be given the right to request an urgent review of their care, after her concerns were ignored.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The National Health Service said that between September 2024 and June 2025, 4,906 calls were made to Martha\u2019s Rule helplines at hospitals trialling the scheme, leading to 241 \u201cpotentially life-saving interventions\u201d. This week, it announced that it had been rolled out across England.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cFamilies often know their loved ones better than anyone \u2013 they can spot when something isn\u2019t right in ways that even experienced doctors might miss,\u201d said Dr Ronny Cheung, consultant general paediatrician at Evelina London Children\u2019s Hospital.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019ve had Martha\u2019s Rule invoked under my care, and while it can feel challenging initially, it\u2019s ultimately about creating a culture where everyone\u2026 has a voice to raise concerns.
