David Lammy has been appointed the new Deputy Prime Minister following the resignation of Angela Rayner.<\/p>\n

Mr Lammy, who was Foreign Secretary before the reshuffle, will take over from Ashton<\/a> MP Ms Rayner – who stood down earlier on Friday following a row over her tax affairs.<\/p>\n

Sir Keir’s Cabinet reshuffle will also see Mr Lammy become the new Justice Secretary.<\/p>\n

Yvette Cooper has been moved from Home Secretary to Foreign Secretary to replace Mr Lammy, while Justice Secretary Shabana Mahmood has been appointed the new Home Secretary, according to reports.<\/p>\n

Mr Lammy had served as Foreign Secretary since July 2024 when the new Labour<\/a> government took charge.<\/p>\n

The veteran MP had previously held junior ministerial positions with previous Labour governments under Tony Blair and Gordon Brown.<\/p>\n

Mr Lammy has been widely commended during his time as Foreign Secretary, playing a leading role in the charm offensive which won over the Trump administration.<\/p>\n

Today’s reshuffle comes after Ms Rayner resigned as Deputy PM, Housing Secretary and Deputy Labour Leader.<\/p>\n

Sir Keir\u2019s ethics adviser said she failed to \u201cheed the caution\u201d contained within legal advice she received when buying an \u00a3800,000 property in Hove.<\/p>\n

The Greater Manchester MP admitted she had underpaid stamp duty on the flat, and referred herself to Sir Laurie Magnus, the independent ethics adviser.<\/p>\n

In a letter published on Friday, Sir Laurie said he believed Ms Rayner had acted in \u201cgood faith\u201d, but that \u201cthe responsibility of any taxpayer for reporting their tax returns and settling their liabilities rests ultimately with themselves\u201d.<\/p>\n
