{"id":400958,"date":"2025-09-05T21:18:22","date_gmt":"2025-09-05T21:18:22","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/400958\/"},"modified":"2025-09-05T21:18:22","modified_gmt":"2025-09-05T21:18:22","slug":"police-issue-warning-ahead-of-weekend-protests-in-edinburgh-and-aberdeen","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/400958\/","title":{"rendered":"Police issue warning ahead of weekend protests in Edinburgh and Aberdeen"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Police Scotland has issued a warning ahead of planned protests across the country. <\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Five protests are due to take place across Edinburgh and Aberdeen over the weekend.<\/p>\n<p>People will gather at 2pm in Edinburgh on Saturday to protest the ban on Palestine Action.<\/p>\n<p>A \u201cNo to the Far-Right\u201d protest, organised by Stand Up To Racism Edinburgh, will take place at Scottish Parliament on Saturday at 11am.<\/p>\n<p>A Force For Good, in association with WeSayItPodcast, will be holding the second Enough is Enough rally also  outside the Scottish Parliament at 12pm on Saturday.<\/p>\n<p>They say there are now record-breaking immigration figures that are unsustainable, and \u201cnational citizens must be put first\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>A march for Scottish independence is also scheduled for 12.30pm on Saturday in Edinburgh. Protestors will march through Johnstone Terrace, Lawn Market, High Street, Canon Gate, and Horse Wynd to the Scottish Parliament.<\/p>\n<p>Immigration and anti-immigration protests are also planned at Marischal College in Aberdeen on Saturday.<\/p>\n<p>Ahead of the action, Police Scotland said it was \u201cproud\u201d of its approach to protests and outlined what would be classed as unlawful behaviour.<\/p>\n<p>A statement from the force said: \u201cAbusive, threatening behaviour or activity intended to disrupt an event that poses a risk to safety is not legitimate protest.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe know there are strong feelings towards the situation in Palestine, and people continue to express their views about that through protest and demonstrations without breaking counter terrorism laws.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe key difference is showing support for Palestine Action Group as it is an offence under the Terrorism Act 2000 to be a member of a proscribed organisation or to invite or express support for them.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>That support includes \u201cwearing clothing or carrying any item in public in such a way as to arouse suspicion that they are a member of, or a supporter of, a proscribed organisation\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>They said every situation is unique and will be dealt with on a case-by-case basis.<\/p>\n<p>STV News is now on WhatsApp<\/p>\n<p>Get all the latest news from around the country<\/p>\n<p> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.whatsapp.com\/channel\/0029VaCESJzKgsNvKKNOYO2r\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">      Follow STV News <\/a>Follow STV News on WhatsApp<\/p>\n<p>Scan the QR code on your mobile device for all the latest news from around the country<\/p>\n<p> <img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/08\/whatsapp-qr.png\" alt=\"WhatsApp channel QR Code\"\/><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"Police Scotland has issued a warning ahead of planned protests across the country.
