{"id":401135,"date":"2025-09-05T22:56:16","date_gmt":"2025-09-05T22:56:16","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/401135\/"},"modified":"2025-09-05T22:56:16","modified_gmt":"2025-09-05T22:56:16","slug":"leeds-united-news-farke-wanted-alex-nubel-over-lucas-perri","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/401135\/","title":{"rendered":"Leeds United News: Farke wanted Alex Nubel over Lucas Perri"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.leedsallover.com\/tag\/leeds-united\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Leeds United\u2019s<\/a> transfer window has left fans rightly looking for answers as to how the summer was able to end so poorly after such an encouraging start.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The 49ers knew that this summer was going to be a massive challenge and a hugely important period in the club\u2019s history if they wanted to finish outside the relegation zone and buck a growing trend in the top flight of promoted teams dropping straight back down.<\/p>\n<p>To do that, recruitment had to be spot on, and it\u2019s safe to say that the deadline passing <a href=\"https:\/\/www.leedsallover.com\/robbie-evans-explains-why-leeds-united-couldnt-compete-with-sunderland-spending\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">has left more questions for the higher-ups to answer,<\/a> despite some encouraging moves much earlier in the window to strengthen at the back.<\/p>\n<p>    Most Read on LeedsAllOver<\/p>\n<p>Leeds United\u2019s GK recruitment caused plenty of disagreement, Daniel Farke preferred Alexander Nubel to Lucas Perri<\/p>\n<p>A vital position Leeds simply had to get right in the summer was in goal, with Illan Meslier axed from the starting lineup in April and Karl Darlow not seen as a Premier League starter.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.leedsallover.com\/leeds-united-secure-agreement-to-sign-new-goalkeeper-13m-fee-revealed-fabrizio-romano\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">The man Leeds eventually turned to later in July was Lyon\u2019s Lucas Perri for around \u00a313million<\/a>, a towering Brazilian with a freakish long throw and commanding presence between the sticks.<\/p>\n<p><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"749\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/09\/2025-08-18T201543Z_1072652675_UP1EL8I1KA6UD_RTRMADP_3_SOCCER-ENGLAND-LEE-EVE-1024x749.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-56223\"  \/>(REUTERS\/Scott Heppell)<\/p>\n<p>He\u2019s come under some harsh criticism thus far, mainly for his distribution with his feet, but has two clean sheets in three games, a solid start.<\/p>\n<p>Things could have been different if Daniel Farke was given autonomy on the recruitment decisions, though, having had much more of a say during United\u2019s two-year spell in the Championship.<\/p>\n<p>That\u2019s according to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/athletic\/6591764\/2025\/09\/03\/inside-leeds-united-transfer-window\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">The Athletic<\/a>, who shed light on the summer window and shared how the recruitment staff and Farke were somewhat at odds over their efforts to replace Meslier, eventually turning to Perri.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p>\u201cThe pursuit of a goalkeeper was arguably the most divisive process across June and July for the club\u2019s hierarchy.
