Former Manchester United forward Mason Greenwood last played for England in 2020 – and Thomas Tuchel has now provided an update on whether he will feature under him.<\/p>\n

Thomas Tuchel has dismissed the idea of Mason Greenwood<\/a> featuring for England under him.<\/p>\n

The forward left Manchester United<\/a> permanently in a \u00a326.6million deal to join Marseille last summer<\/a>. The 23-year-old went on to score 22 goals alongside six assists across all competitions for the French Ligue 1 team.<\/p>\n

Greenwood hasn’t featured for United since January 2022, following an internal investigation by the club, which resulted in a decision that he would not continue to play for the club after being charged with attempted rape, coercive control and assault in early 2022. Those charges were then dropped, in February 2023, with Greenwood vehemently denying all allegations.<\/p>\n

The academy graduate had started the process of changing his allegiance to Jamaica. He obtained a Jamaican passport, but hasn’t completed the requisite change of association form, as he was not ready to commit to the Caribbean nation.<\/p>\n

And now Tuchel has dismissed the idea of an England<\/a> return. “I have not spoken to him until now.<\/p>\n

“I have not spoken to him or his camp,” he told a news conference.<\/p>\n

“My understanding was that he tries to play for Jamaica so we didn’t give it another thought.<\/p>\n

“He was not in the mix at the moment and he is not in our thoughts for our team.”<\/p>\n

Jamaica coach and former United assistant manager Steve McClaren wanted to include Greenwood in his squad for their World Cup qualifiers against Bermuda and Trinidad and Tobago – but he then reported “he’s not going to commit at this time to anybody.”<\/p>\n

He added: “He [Greenwood] is taking his time over that, so it’s a little bit disappointing. We probably have to be more patient.<\/p>\n

“But we will keep the contact and we will keep pursuing him because I know from my conversations with Mason and his family that he loves Jamaica, respects Jamaica.<\/p>\n

“He wants to concentrate on club football and not commit to an international team at the present moment. We have to respect that – however much we’ve worked hard to get him here for these camps.<\/p>\n

“So, who knows in the future.”<\/p>\n
