\n Applicant, KAZ Hotels has submitted a planning application to redevelop Mawbey Arms in Oval and reopen it to the public once again.\n<\/p>\n
\n The Victorian pub on Mawbey Street closed in 2017 and since then has remained vacant.\n<\/p>\n
\n The pub has been described as a \u201csole 19th century survivor\u201d located in the middle of a 1970s housing estate.\n<\/p>\n
\n The council\u2019s planning applications committee has been recommended to approve of the plans at a meeting next week (September 9).\n<\/p>\n
\n According to planning documents, the upper floors of the pub were previously used for residential purposes and there was also a pub garden, which has fallen into disrepair and is overgrown.\n<\/p>\n
\n Under the plans, the pub would be restored within the existing building while the back of it is set to be demolished.\n<\/p>\n
\n The hotel would be built in the form of an extension which would be located at the back and side of the pub.\n<\/p>\n
\n Four of the 28 hotel rooms are set to be accessible and all of the rooms would have en-suites.\n<\/p>\n
\n KAZ Hotels does not believe the pub would not be able to run solely on its own again as it previously suffered from poor turnover and profits prior to its 2017 closure.\n<\/p>\n
\n Planning officers said: \u201cThe proposed hotel use would facilitate the re-provision\u00a0and enhancement of the public house as part of the scheme, making both uses viable.\n<\/p>\n
\n \u201cAs such, the hotel use is required as part of the proposal to enable the re-use of the public house. However the public house use would remain open to the public and would not be solely for hotel guests.\u201d\n<\/p>\n
\n During the public consultation, letters were sent out to\u00a027 neighbouring properties however no one responded.\n<\/p>\n
