A report from upGrad titled Transnational Education (TNE) Report 2024\u201325, reveals a shift in how young Indians approach international degrees.<\/p>\n<p>Germany Surges, US Slips<\/p>\n<p>The<a href=\"https:\/\/indianexpress.com\/article\/education\/study-abroad\/us-makes-norms-for-granting-student-visas-more-stringent-highlights-study-abroad-10216068\/\" class=\"\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"> United States,<\/a> long considered the default destination for Indian students, is witnessing a decline. Applications to US universities dropped by 13 per cent year-on-year.<\/p>\n<p><img class=\"lazyloading\" decoding=\"async\" data-lazy-type=\"lazyloading-image\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/04\/track_1x1.jpg\" data-lazy-src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/04\/track_1x1.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1px\" height=\"1px\" style=\"display:none;\"\/><br \/>\n<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"737\" height=\"483\" class=\"lazyloading wp-image-10232132\" data-lazy-type=\"lazyloading-image\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/09\/study-abroad-us-canada-germany.png\" alt=\"Germany overtakes US, Canada in terms of study abroad applications: Report\"  \/> Here\u2019s the graph showing the shift in student applications: US applications dropped by 13%, Germany surged as the top choice, and Canada saw a steep decline.<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, Germany has emerged as the top choice, with student share rising from 13.2 per cent in 2022 to a staggering 32.6 per cent in 2024\u201325. Canada, too, saw a sharp fall \u2014 from 17.85 per cent to 9.3 per cent.<\/p>\n<p>Story continues below this ad<\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/indianexpress.com\/article\/education\/study-abroad\/cost-of-living-in-germany-indian-international-students-scholarships-available-study-abroad-10188603\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>What\u2019s the average cost of living in Germany for students?<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n<p>According to upGrad\u2019s 2024\u201325 report, European countries are witnessing a surge in interest from Indian students, with Germany leading at 32.6%, followed by Ireland (3.9%), France (3.3%), and a collective 9 per cent opting for other European destinations.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/indianexpress.com\/article\/education\/study-abroad\/neet-ug-2025-study-medicine-abroad-japan-medical-colleges-eligibility-visa-top-institutes-cost-of-study-10188770\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>Here\u2019s why Japan could be the next hotspot for Indian medical aspirants<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The UAE is another rising star, now hosting 42 per cent of its international student population from India.<\/p>\n<p>Story continues below this ad<\/p>\n<p>Career Over Citizenship &amp; Funding<\/p>\n<p>The report underscores a clear shift in priorities. Only 19.9 per cent of respondents said they chose permanent residency (PR) as a goal, while 45.7 per cent are focused on tangible career outcomes. The report takes into account one lakh respondents for the survey.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"793\" height=\"469\" class=\"lazyloading wp-image-10232134\" data-lazy-type=\"lazyloading-image\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/09\/germany-canada-us-study-abroad.png\" alt=\"Germany overtakes US, Canada in terms of study abroad applications: Report\"  \/> Here\u2019s a pie chart showing student priorities: 19.9% value permanent residency, 45.7% prioritize career outcomes, and the rest fall into other goals.<\/p>\n<p>With diversity in choices, funding remains a critical factor, with 33 per cent of students relying on education loans and 28 per cent depending on scholarships.<\/p>\n<p>Top Course Choices<\/p>\n<p>Master\u2019s degrees remain the dominant choice, with 86.5 per cent of respondents opting for postgraduate programmes.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"709\" height=\"455\" class=\"lazyloading wp-image-10232139\" data-lazy-type=\"lazyloading-image\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/09\/study-abroad-canada-us-germant.png\" alt=\"Germany overtakes US, Canada in terms of study abroad applications: Report\"  \/> The graph highlights how Master\u2019s degrees dominate (86.5%), Management\/MBA programmes surged from 30% to 55.6%, and STEM fields hold a strong 38.9% share.<\/p>\n<p>Management and MBA programmes have doubled in popularity\u2014from 30 per cent to 55.6 per cent in just three years. The traditional \u2018Big Four\u2019 destinations are no longer the default; instead, Europe, the Middle East, and APAC are emerging as smarter, future-ready alternatives.
