Learn more<\/a>\"BenManchester City have signed Under-17 England goalkeeper Ben Vickery from Hibs<\/p>\n

Manchester City have been praised for their conduct in negotiations for teenage goalkeeper Ben Vickery after signing him from Scottish Premiership outfit Hibernian.<\/p>\n

City have signed the 16-year-old for what Hibs have described as a \u201csubstantial fee\u201d, believed to be around \u00a3200,000, and the deal also includes a sell-on clause.<\/p>\n

Vickery has been on the books at Easter<\/a> Road since he was 10 and played for the club\u2019s Under-18s last season at the age of 15. He also represented Scotland at Under-16 level but recently switched to England and has been involved with their Under-17 side this week.<\/p>\n

Hibs\u2019 sporting director Malky Mackay said: \u201cBen is a young player with a lot of potential, which is why there was a lot of interest in him from elite clubs below the border. Developing young players with this potential is credit to our staff and the Hibernian FC Academy.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhen clubs like Manchester City<\/a> show interest in one of our young players, understandably it becomes an opportunity that\u2019s difficult for them to turn down.<\/p>\n

\u201cAfter Ben\u2019s successful trial, we worked hard with Manchester City to get a deal that represented his true value rather than the player running his contract down and Hibs receiving the usual training compensation.<\/p>\n

We\u2019d like to thank Manchester City for how they conducted themselves during the negotiations, and wish Ben all the best for the future.\u201d<\/p>\n

The deal to take Vickery to the Etihad was agreed earlier this year and he officially linked up with his new teammates during the summer transfer window.<\/p>\n

He was on the bench for City Under-18s last week as they beat Blackburn Rovers 7-3 in the Under-18 Premier League<\/a>.<\/p>\n
