Kerry has opened up about being ‘taken advantage of’ as a teen<\/p>\n

Kerry Katona<\/a> is well-known for her colourful past and traumatic childhood \u2013 and last week, she opened up once again about some of the more distressing elements of that past \u2013 including how she had been taken advantage of and nearly became an escort at 16<\/a>. Speaking for the very first time about the shocking path she almost took as a teenager, the 45-year-old revealed that she had hopes of becoming a Page 3 model as she \u201cwasn\u2019t going to be a rocket scientist\u201d.<\/p>\n

She told Paul C Brunson\u2019<\/a>s We Need To Talk podcast, \u201dI had a great set of tits. Like, I\u2019d been modelling since I was three\u2026 so I was, like, a really good-looking kid, you know, and I had these great boobs.\u201d Her mum, she explained, she sent off her portfolio of pictures, with the photographer asking whether she wanted to do topless photos, Kerry admitting, as OK! reports,<\/a> that the snaps were \u201cher idea\u201d.<\/p>\n

It was at this point that she confessed she was even thinking about being an escort. \u201cI even was gonna sign up to be an escort. My mum took me into a sex shop. I didn\u2019t end up doing it\u2026 Well, there was a photographer and Mum didn\u2019t end up coming, that\u2019s all I can say. And he convinced me to do open-leg shots \u2013 but I\u2019ve gone back to doing it on OnlyFans<\/a>, gone back to my roots \u2013 and that came back to haunt me then, when I became famous, he sold all those pictures.\u201d<\/p>\n

Fans on social media have heaped Kerry with praise since her jaw-dropping revelations \u2013 one calling her \u201ctruly amazing, strong and brave\u201d and another, \u201cso open and transparent\u201d. Celebrity pals have also been full of admiration for the mum-of-five, including Christine McGuinness<\/a> who commented, \u201cTurning pain into power over pity \u2013 my kinda woman!\u201d And Gemma Atkinson<\/a> admitted Kerry had made her \u201ccry\u201d.<\/p>\n

And speaking to us Kerry reveals, \u201cI did say on Paul C Brunson\u2019s podcast that someone tried to persuade me to become an escort. That\u2019s not something I was planning on talking about\u2026 but it came out. I never did it or anything like that, but I do remember the photographer in question trying to convince me to shoot various things that I didn\u2019t want to do. I didn\u2019t do it and I was very young at the time, but it is what it is. I\u2019m not really one to talk, because I do OnlyFans now, but that\u2019s totally different. I control that and it\u2019s on my terms.\u201d<\/p>\n

The former Atomic Kitten has lived a famously turbulent life and \u2013 though parts are not easy to revisit, she feels it\u2019s important to be honest about some of its darker chapters. \u201cYou can\u2019t live with regrets in life, so I don\u2019t regret things \u2013 it\u2019s put me where I am today. I have been feeling so overwhelmed and emotional since the podcast came out because I spoke about a lot of things from my past. It\u2019s hard to go back to that place.\u201d<\/p>\n

Kerry, whose new romance with PT Paolo Margaglione is finally playing out on the small screen, also opened up about her tumultuous childhood. The star, who said she was a product of an affair, revealed her mum\u2019s many relationships over the years. Now on the road for a UK tour with Katie Price<\/a>, she may be in control of her life today, with a successful TV career and her own lucrative account on adults-only subscription site OnlyFans, but she admits, it\u2019s not always been that way.<\/p>\n

Detailing the photographer\u2019s photos of her as a teen, she tells OK!, \u201cPeople have taken advantage of me before \u2013 like the person who did the open-leg photos of me, when I was young.\u201d<\/p>\n

Kerry also spoke last week about her relationship with her mum Sue, who she first tried drugs with at 14, having been told it was \u201csherbet\u201d. Revealing that she and her mother had to go into witness protection to hide from Sue\u2019s abusive boyfriend Dave, who turned out to be Kerry\u2019s biological father, she admitted she was \u201cterrified\u201d of Dave and witnessed \u201cunspeakable\u201d things as a child.<\/p>\n

But in a tearful Instagram<\/a> video, Kerry urged fans not to send her mum \u201chateful\u201d messages, reiterating that \u201cwe all make mistakes\u201d. She said, \u201cIt was a very, very long time ago and I love my mum dearly and my mum is not that person any more, she\u2019s a much older lady now.\u201d<\/p>\n

Kerry went on, \u201cSo if anyone is thinking of sending her any messages of hate, please don\u2019t. We all make mistakes and my mum\u2019s childhood was awful and it\u2019s in the past and it\u2019s made me who I am today.\u201d<\/p>\n

Kerry has been in particularly reflective form lately, raking over often painful episodes of her old life. Positive psychology coach and therapist Clare Deacon (happyacoach.com) says, \u201cIt\u2019s interesting that Kerry\u2019s talking so much about her past recently, particularly the element about almost becoming an escort, which seems to be a secret she has carried for so long and says she hadn\u2019t planned to talk about.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cSpeaking out and owning her story can be profoundly validating. I often support people who\u2019ve had to suppress their stories because it wasn\u2019t what they \u201cshould\u201d do or be \u2013 that feeds shame and reinforces the belief that you\u2019re not worthy\u2026 Sharing the truth begins to dismantle that.\u201d<\/p>\n

It\u2019s also about taking control of the narrative, adds Clare. \u201cBy choosing to tell her story on her own terms, Kerry\u2019s reclaiming her power. She\u2019s modelling growth and showing others that our previous chapters don\u2019t define us, they are not the end of our story.\u201d<\/p>\n
