The Duchess\u2019 coffin will rest in the private chapel in Kensington Palace ahead of its arrival at Westminster.\u00a0\n<\/p>\n<p id=\"mntl-sc-block_6-0\" class=\"comp mntl-sc-block mntl-sc-block-html\"> The coffin will arrive at the cathedral the day before the funeral on Monday, Sept. 15, where the Rite of Reception and Vespers will take place the evening prior to the Requiem Mass.\u00a0\n<\/p>\n<p id=\"mntl-sc-block_10-0\" class=\"comp mntl-sc-block mntl-sc-block-html\"> <a href=\"https:\/\/people.com\/person\/king-charles-iii\/\" data-component=\"link\" data-source=\"inlineLink\" data-type=\"internalLink\" data-ordinal=\"1\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">King Charles<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/people.com\/person\/queen-camilla\/\" data-component=\"link\" data-source=\"inlineLink\" data-type=\"internalLink\" data-ordinal=\"2\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Queen Camilla<\/a>, along with other members of the royal family, \u201cwill join The Duke of Kent and members of The Duchess\u2019 family\u201d for the Sept. 16 service. The coffin will then be taken by hearse to the Royal Burial Ground at Frogmore in Windsor.\n<\/p>\n<p id=\"mntl-sc-block_12-0\" class=\"comp mntl-sc-block mntl-sc-block-html\"> \u201cFlags will be half-masted at all official Royal Residences flying the Union flag on the day of the Funeral,&#8221; the statement continued.\n<\/p>\n<p> Katharine, the Duchess of Kent, in 1988.<\/p>\n<p>Georges De Keerle\/Getty<\/p>\n<p id=\"mntl-sc-block_15-0\" class=\"comp mntl-sc-block mntl-sc-block-html\"> Katharine\u2019s service will mark the first royal funeral at Westminster Cathedral since its construction in 1903, and will be the first royal Catholic funeral in modern history. It was Katharine\u2019s wish to have her funeral at the cathedral, and the plans have the support of <a href=\"https:\/\/people.com\/royals\/all-about-british-royal-family\/\" data-component=\"link\" data-source=\"inlineLink\" data-type=\"internalLink\" data-ordinal=\"1\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">the royal family<\/a>.\n<\/p>\n<p id=\"mntl-sc-block_17-0\" class=\"comp mntl-sc-block mntl-sc-block-html\"> The guest list for the funeral includes members of the royal family, the Duchess\u2019 family, friends and representatives from her charities and regimental affiliations. The service will be private and will not be broadcast.\n<\/p>\n<p id=\"mntl-sc-block_19-0\" class=\"comp mntl-sc-block mntl-sc-block-html\"> Katharine, who died on Sept. 4 at the age of 92, was married to Queen Elizabeth\u2019s cousin, Prince Edward. They had <a href=\"https:\/\/people.com\/queen-elizabeth-youngest-grandchildren-lady-louise-james-what-future-holds-11802548\" data-component=\"link\" data-source=\"inlineLink\" data-type=\"internalLink\" data-ordinal=\"1\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">three children<\/a>: George, Earl of St. Andrews, Lady Helen Windsor and Lord Nicholas Windsor.
