I support Palestine Action&#8221; <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/Ivzfcz2YNk\">pic.twitter.com\/Ivzfcz2YNk<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Defend Our Juries (@DefendourJuries) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/DefendourJuries\/status\/1964337509980409901?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">September 6, 2025<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>The Press Association, a UK news agency, reported that police drew their batons during the clashes, and one protester was seen with blood streaming down his face behind a barrier after being arrested.<\/p>\n<p>The agency also reported that police had screaming arguments with demonstrators and had water and plastic bottles thrown at them while several protesters fell over in a crush at one point.<\/p>\n<p>London\u2019s Metropolitan Police confirmed that about 150 people had been arrested for a range of offences, including assaulting a police officer and expressing support for a proscribed organisation.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOfficers policing the Defend Our Juries protest in Parliament Square have been subjected to an exceptional level of abuse including punches, kicks, spitting and objects being thrown, in addition to verbal abuse,\u201d the Met said on X.<\/p>\n<p>\u2018Chilling effect\u2019<\/p>\n<p>The protests are the latest in a series of rallies denouncing the UK government\u2019s decision in July to ban Palestine Action under the Terrorism Act 2000.<\/p>\n<p>The ban came after members of the group broke into an air force base in southern England the previous month, causing an estimated 7 million pounds ($9.4m) of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.aljazeera.com\/video\/newsfeed\/2025\/6\/20\/pro-palestine-activists-spray-red-paint-on-military-plane-at-uk-airbase\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">damage to two aircraft<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Membership in or support for the group, which is supported by prominent figures like bestselling Irish author <a href=\"https:\/\/www.aljazeera.com\/news\/2025\/8\/18\/uk-warns-sally-rooney-after-novelist-pledges-to-fund-palestine-action\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Sally Rooney<\/a> and Massive Attack singer-songwriter Robert Del Naja, is now a criminal offence punishable by up to 14 years in prison.<\/p>\n<p>Palestine Action has won approval from the High Court to challenge the ban, a ruling the government is seeking to overturn. The case is ongoing with a hearing scheduled on September 25.<\/p>\n<p>Huda Ammori, Palestine Action\u2019s cofounder, has condemned the government\u2019s decision to ban it as \u201ccatastrophic\u201d for civil liberties and said it would lead to a \u201cmuch wider chilling effect on freedom of speech\u201d.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-arc-image-770 wp-image-3929801\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/09\/2025-09-06T151704Z_1078664046_RC2EMGA0ZP0J_RTRMADP_3_ISRAEL-PALESTINIANS-BRITAIN-PALESTINE-ACTION-17.jpeg\" alt=\"Protester arrested after demonstration against UK ban on Palestine Action\" fetchpriority=\"low\"\/>A demonstrator sitting inside a police vehicle is detained after challenging the British government\u2019s proscription of Palestine Action under anti-terrorism laws [Carlos Jasso\/Reuters]<\/p>\n<p>Kerry Moscogiuri of the human rights campaign group Amnesty International UK said: \u201cWhen the government is arresting people under terrorism laws for sitting peacefully in protest, something is going very wrong here in the UK.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cCriminalising speech in this context is only permitted when it incites violence or advocates hatred. Expressing support for Palestine Action does not, in itself, meet this threshold.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>More than 700 people were arrested at earlier protests \u2013 including 532 at a London rally on August 9, which marked the largest mass arrest in the capital since the 1960s \u2013 and 138 have been charged under the Terrorism Act.<\/p>\n<p>Mike Higgins, 62, who is blind and uses a wheelchair, returned to protest on Saturday after making headlines over his arrest on August 9.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhat choice do I have?\u201d he told The Press Association. \u201cNothing is being done about the genocide other than by us .\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAnd I\u2019m a terrorist?
