{"id":404323,"date":"2025-09-07T04:05:11","date_gmt":"2025-09-07T04:05:11","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/404323\/"},"modified":"2025-09-07T04:05:11","modified_gmt":"2025-09-07T04:05:11","slug":"i-traveled-to-14-countries-in-europe-and-it-cost-less-than-my-us-rent-american-prices-are-no-longer-sustainable","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/404323\/","title":{"rendered":"I traveled to 14 countries in Europe and it cost less than my US rent \u2014 American prices are no longer sustainable"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>If you think you can\u2019t afford to summer in Europe, think again. <\/p>\n<p>An American woman says she spent 55 days traveling across the continent in July and August \u2014 and her total spend was lower than what she\u2019d pay for rent back in Los Angeles. <\/p>\n<p>Monae Hendrickson, 29, revealed in a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tiktok.com\/@more.monaee\/video\/7543111834715311390\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">viral TikTok video <\/a>that she visited 14 countries for a total cost of $4,170, equating to just $76 per day. <\/p>\n<p>In comparison, the content creator pays $2600 a month for her LA lodgings, equating to $86 per day. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe United States that is no longer economical,\u201d Hendrickson told The Post, adding in her TikTok caption that travel in \u201calmost every part of the world is less than the cost of living in major US cities.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The numbers prove that, in some cases, travel to Europe is no longer an indulgence, but a savings hack. <\/p>\n<p>Monae Hendrickson, 29, revealed in a viral TikTok video that she visited 14 countries for a total cost of $4,170, equating to just $76 per day.  @more.monaee \/ TikTok<\/p>\n<p>Hendrickson admitted she was thrifty when it came to her travels, spending a majority of her time in low-cost Eastern European countries where her money stretched further. <\/p>\n<p>Still, the intrepid explorer managed to treat herself in places such as Poland, Latvia and Albania, with quality Airbnbs, tasty food, and \u201cthe best ice cream she has ever had in her entire life.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAn average cappuccino in Albania was $2,\u201d she told The Post. \u201cWhile a private room in a hotel was an average of $30 per night.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe United States that is no longer economical,\u201d Hendrickson told The Post, adding in her TikTok caption that travel in \u201calmost every part of the world is less than the cost of living in major US cities.\u201d Hendrickson is seen in Italy.  @more.monaee \/ TikTok<\/p>\n<p>The stunning coast of Albania is pictured. Leonid Andronov \u2013 stock.adobe.com<\/p>\n<p>In the latter part of her travels, Hendrickson ventured to more expensive Nordic nations, including Finland. <\/p>\n<p>However, because of the low cost of the earlier part of her trip, the higher prices were largely offset. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cDollar for dollar, it\u2019s pretty close to the US,\u201d Hendrickson said. \u201cBut you get safe public transportation, beautiful, publicly funded, affordable activities, astonishing nature, and truly, don\u2019t get me started on the cardamom buns.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYou can never go back to pretending that life in America is the best it gets,\u201d she added. <\/p>\n<p>Like many young college grads, Hendrickson says she was already feeling burned out by America\u2019s corporate culture, and she\u2019s now a full-time travel content creator. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cI was in the rat race of working dead-end jobs I was definitely overqualified for with my two business degrees,\u201d she said, saying she now loves the freedom, flexibility \u2014 and the financial savings \u2014 that overseas travel awards her. <\/p>\n<p>\t\t\t\t\t\t<script async src=\"\/\/www.tiktok.com\/embed.js\"><\/script><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"If you think you can\u2019t afford to summer in Europe, think again.
