{"id":404383,"date":"2025-09-07T04:38:14","date_gmt":"2025-09-07T04:38:14","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/404383\/"},"modified":"2025-09-07T04:38:14","modified_gmt":"2025-09-07T04:38:14","slug":"blood-moon-to-rise-sunday-night-in-asia-including-israel-during-total-lunar-eclipse","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/404383\/","title":{"rendered":"&#8216;Blood Moon&#8217; to rise Sunday night in Asia, including Israel, during total lunar eclipse"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Stargazers, including in Israel, will have a chance to see a \u201cBlood Moon\u201d on Sunday night during a total lunar eclipse visible across Asia and swathes of Europe, Australia and Africa.<\/p>\n<p>When the Sun, Earth and Moon line up, the shadow cast by the planet on its satellite makes it appear an eerie, deep red color that has astounded humans for millennia.<\/p>\n<p>People in Asia, including India and China, will be best placed to see Sunday\u2019s total eclipse, which will also be visible on the eastern edge of Africa as well as in western Australia.<\/p>\n<p>Stargazers in Europe and Africa will get a brief chance to see a partial eclipse just as the Moon rises during the early evening, while the Americas will miss out.<\/p>\n<p>The total lunar eclipse will last from 1730 GMT to 1852 GMT.<\/p>\n<p>\n\t\t\tGet The Times of Israel&#8217;s Daily Edition<br \/>\n\t\t\tby email and never miss our top stories\n\t\t<\/p>\n<p>\t\t\t\tBy signing up, you agree to the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.timesofisrael.com\/terms\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">terms<\/a><\/p>\n<p>The partial eclipse begins when it is 6:28 p.m. in Israel, though the Moon will only rise in the Jewish state at 6:51 p.m. The Moon will gradually grow darker and redder until the full eclipse takes place from 8:30 p.m. until 9:52 p.m., with the eclipse peaking at 9:12 p.m.<\/p>\n<p>The Moon will then gradually grow brighter until the eclipse ends at 11:55 p.m.<\/p>\n<p>The Moon appears red during lunar eclipses because the only sunlight reaching it is \u201creflected and scattered through the Earth\u2019s atmosphere,\u201d said Ryan Milligan, an astrophysicist at Northern Ireland\u2019s Queen\u2019s University Belfast.<\/p>\n<p>Blue wavelengths of light are shorter than red ones, so are more easily dispersed as they travel through Earth\u2019s atmosphere, he told AFP.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThat\u2019s what gives the moon its red, bloody color.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>While special glasses or pinhole projectors are needed to safely observe solar eclipses, all that is required to see a lunar eclipse is clear weather \u2014 and being in the right spot.<\/p>\n<p>The last total lunar eclipse was in March this year, while the one before that was in 2022.<\/p>\n<p>Milligan, a self-described \u201csolar eclipse chaser,\u201d said he considered Sunday\u2019s event a prelude to what he called the \u201cbig one\u201d next year.<\/p>\n<p>A rare total solar eclipse, when the Moon blocks out the light from the Sun, will be visible in a sliver of Europe on August 12, 2026.<\/p>\n<p>\t<a href=\"https:\/\/static-cdn.toi-media.com\/www\/uploads\/2024\/04\/AP24099681081408.jpg\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-large wp-image-3264281\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/09\/AP24099681081408-640x400.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"375\"\/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>A total solar eclipse is seen from Arlington, Texas, April 8, 2024. (AP Photo\/Julio Cortez)<\/p>\n<p>For more than a decade, Milligan has traveled the world to witness 12 totalities, which is when the Moon completely obscures the Sun.<\/p>\n<p>Next year\u2019s totality \u2014 the first in mainland Europe since 2006 \u2014 will be visible only in Spain and Iceland, though other countries will be able to see a significant partial eclipse.<\/p>\n<p>In Spain, the totality will be visible in a roughly 160-kilometer (100-mile) band between Madrid and Barcelona, but neither city will see the full phenomenon, Milligan said.<\/p>\n<p>It will be the first total solar eclipse since one swept across North America in April 2024.<\/p>\n<p>&#13;<br \/>\n\t\t\t\tIs The Times of Israel important to you?\t\t\t<\/p>\n<p>If so, we have a request.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Every day, even during war, our journalists keep you abreast of the most important developments that merit your attention.
