{"id":404403,"date":"2025-09-07T04:50:14","date_gmt":"2025-09-07T04:50:14","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/404403\/"},"modified":"2025-09-07T04:50:14","modified_gmt":"2025-09-07T04:50:14","slug":"90-of-working-parents-concerned-about-rising-food-prices-survey-says","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/404403\/","title":{"rendered":"90% of working parents concerned about rising food prices, survey says"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"yf-1090901\">Working-age <a href=\"https:\/\/www.independent.co.uk\/topic\/parents\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-ylk=\"slk:parents;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\" class=\"link \">parents<\/a>\u2019 concerns about food costs have increased to levels not seen since autumn 2022, according to a new study.<\/p>\n<p class=\"yf-1090901\">The autumn of 2022 saw <a href=\"https:\/\/www.independent.co.uk\/topic\/inflation\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-ylk=\"slk:inflation;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\" class=\"link \">inflation<\/a> rise to double figures.<\/p>\n<p class=\"yf-1090901\">According to Which?, nearly nine in 10 (87 per cent) working-age parents reported being concerned about <a href=\"https:\/\/www.independent.co.uk\/topic\/food-prices\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-ylk=\"slk:food prices;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\" class=\"link \">food prices<\/a> in the month to mid-August.<\/p>\n<p class=\"yf-1090901\">This was an increase of six percentage points since May and indicated working-age parents\u2019 concerns about food prices returned to levels not seen since November 2022 \u2013 a month when annual Consumer Prices Index (CPI) inflation was running at 10.7 per cent.<\/p>\n<p class=\"yf-1090901\">Which?\u2019s consumer insight tracker also indicated working parents\u2019 confidence in the future UK economy and their future and current <a href=\"https:\/\/www.independent.co.uk\/topic\/household-finances\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-ylk=\"slk:household finances;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\" class=\"link \">household finances<\/a> deteriorated ahead of the start of the new school year.<\/p>\n<p class=\"yf-1090901\">Across all age groups surveyed, 82 per cent were concerned about food prices. Concerns about energy were also high, at 81 per cent, the consumer group said.<\/p>\n<p>    <img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"data:image\/gif;base64,R0lGODlhAQABAIAAAAAAAP\/\/\/ywAAAAAAQABAAACAUwAOw==\" alt=\"Working parents admit to feeling concerned about food and energy prices (Getty\/iStock)\" loading=\"eager\" height=\"640\" width=\"960\" class=\"yf-1gfnohs loader\"\/> Working parents admit to feeling concerned about food and energy prices (Getty\/iStock)      <\/p>\n<p class=\"yf-1090901\">With winter and higher heating bills fast approaching, pressures on household finances are only likely to increase, Which? said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"yf-1090901\">It added that if people are struggling with essentials such as energy, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.independent.co.uk\/topic\/credit-card\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-ylk=\"slk:credit card;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\" class=\"link \">credit card<\/a> or mortgage payments, they should speak to their provider immediately to get help.<\/p>\n<p class=\"yf-1090901\">Survey research for Which?\u2019s consumer insight tracker is carried out monthly by Yonder.<\/p>\n<p class=\"yf-1090901\">The latest wave of data collection took place between August 13 and 15, with more than 2,000 people surveyed across the UK.<\/p>\n<p class=\"yf-1090901\">Rocio Concha, Which? director of policy and advocacy, said: \u201cOur research shows working parents are feeling the pinch ahead of back-to-school season \u2013 with many worried about the economy, their household finances and the cost of everyday essentials.<\/p>\n<p class=\"yf-1090901\">\u201cAs the nights draw in and the weather gets colder, the extra pressure of staying warm and keeping the lights on will add stress to household finances.
