Now, he is more like the weather itself.\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph-elevate inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cmf8fj49800063b6n3f1jtqmd@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            Although his upstart Reform UK party won just four parliamentary seats in last year\u2019s general election, Farage, the maverick architect of Brexit, has since set the terms of Britain\u2019s political debate, hounding the Labour government over its struggles to control <a href=\"https:\/\/cnn.com\/2025\/08\/22\/uk\/british-hotels-asylum-seekers-immigration-epping-latam-intl\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">illegal immigration<\/a>.\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph-elevate inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cmf8fj49800073b6n5vihhhzb@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            Since the election, Reform has tried to refashion itself from a protest vote party to one that could govern \u2013 untried and inexperienced, but ready to step in if the Labour Party buckles under its own blunders, and the once-mighty Conservatives drift further into political irrelevance.\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph-elevate inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cmf8fj49800083b6nxlkxfhk7@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            Reform\u2019s ambition was on full display at its annual party conference in the city of Birmingham this weekend. Hours before Farage, the party\u2019s leader, was set to give his keynote address Friday, news broke of more woes for Prime Minister Keir Starmer: His deputy, Angela Rayner, <a href=\"https:\/\/cnn.com\/2025\/09\/05\/uk\/angela-rayner-resigns-labour-uk-deputy-prime-minister\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">resigned<\/a> following a scandal over her failure to pay enough property tax.\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph-elevate inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cmf8fj49800093b6no2vnjlpm@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            Keen to bolster Farage\u2019s image as prime minister-in-waiting, Reform\u2019s chairman, David Bull, shunted Farage\u2019s speech forward by three hours, since \u201cat a time of national crisis\u2026 we should hear from our leader.\u201d\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph-elevate inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cmf8fj498000a3b6n2eu4nmqt@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            Farage told his rapturous audience that, despite Labour\u2019s promise that it would bring \u201ca new, different kind of politics, this is as bad, if not worse, than the one before.\u201d\n    <\/p>\n<p>       <img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/09\/gettyimages-2226867938.jpg\" alt=\"Labour politician Angela Rayner resigned as the UK's deputy prime minister on Friday following a scandal over property tax.\" class=\"image_large__dam-img image_large__dam-img--loading\" onload=\"this.classList.remove('image_large__dam-img--loading')\" onerror=\"imageLoadError(this)\" height=\"2667\" width=\"4000\" loading=\"lazy\"\/><\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph-elevate inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cmf8blwgy000d3b6n77vskul9@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            The next election is not due until 2029, but Farage \u2013 sounding buoyed by his recent weather-making powers \u2013 said \u201cthere is every chance of a general election happening in 2027, and we must be ready for that moment.\u201d\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph-elevate inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cmf8fjp8z000g3b6nvb7agjjh@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            Insurgent parties have historically struggled to break Britain\u2019s duopoly held by Labour and the Conservatives. But this time could be different, said Luke Tryl, director of the polling firm More in Common, as Farage\u2019s folky appeal meets an electorate increasingly willing to \u201croll the dice.\u201d\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph-elevate inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cmf8fjp8z000h3b6n3jxe7p53@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            \u201cThe range of possible outcomes is bigger than it has been at previous points in history,\u201d Tryl told CNN. \u201cThe volatility of the electorate means that if, after the next election, Farage was prime minister, I would not be surprised.\u201d\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph-elevate inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cmf8bml9c000s3b6ns5ej9fme@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            British political conferences are usually stolid affairs, but in Birmingham Reform was in party mode. As the members piled in \u2013 couples in Union Jack shirts, young people wearing \u201cFarage 10\u201d soccer jerseys \u2013 pints of beer were served promptly at 10 a.m. Friday.\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph-elevate inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cmf8fktb1000r3b6nbdu0t2c8@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            Standing proud in his \u201cMake Britain Great Again\u201d hat, Danny Leggett, 17, is not old enough to drink alcohol, but said Farage appeals to him because he\u2019s \u201chappy to have a pint.\u201d He\u2019s someone with charisma, unlike the \u201crobotic\u201d Starmer.\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph-elevate inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cmf8fktb1000s3b6nigrbo1fm@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            Leggett isn\u2019t sure when Britain stopped being great, but thinks it happened after World War II. Many on the British right have become convinced that victory in the war was in some way phony. Britain\u2019s global standing declined afterwards, whereas Germany eventually regained its economic power.\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph-elevate inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cmf8fktb1000t3b6nhx5ay6k3@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            In Farage\u2019s telling, the United Kingdom\u2019s decision to leave the European Union, a fringe pipe dream he helped make flesh, is another such victory \u2013 a revolution betrayed.\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph-elevate inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cmf8fktb1000u3b6nvbmxl16g@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            \u201cWe left the European Union, but they didn\u2019t deliver Brexit, did they?\u201d he said in his speech.\n    <\/p>\n<p>       <img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/09\/gettyimages-2233814801.jpg\" alt=\"A Reform UK supporter, clad in Union Jack memorabilia, unveils a \" let=\"\" make=\"\" britain=\"\" great=\"\" flag=\"\" at=\"\" the=\"\" conference=\"\" on=\"\" friday.=\"\" class=\"image_large__dam-img image_large__dam-img--loading\" onload=\"this.classList.remove('image_large__dam-img--loading')\" onerror=\"imageLoadError(this)\" height=\"1000\" width=\"1500\" loading=\"lazy\"\/><\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph-elevate inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cmf8fktb1000v3b6nmpy2n8em@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            Jackie Dudley, one of 900 Reform councilors elected in May\u2019s local elections, said she had abandoned the Conservatives because they\u2019d failed to deliver a \u201creal\u201d Brexit.\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph-elevate inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cmf8fktb1000w3b6n8e9nubyo@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            \u201cWe didn\u2019t get Brexit! If we did, we wouldn\u2019t have the problem now with the ECHR,\u201d she told CNN, referring to the European Convention on Human Rights.\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph-elevate inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cmf8fktb1000x3b6n8k170fy3@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            Britain left the EU but remains a member of the ECHR \u2013 Farage\u2019s newest scapegoat. Farage has vowed to leave the ECHR if elected, which he says would allow the UK to deport migrants deemed to be in the country illegally. Critics say leaving the convention, which is part of UK law, would have wide repercussions.\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph-elevate inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cmf8fktb1000y3b6nbcyiqatr@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            Throughout the conference, \u201cdetain and deport\u201d \u2013 a Trump-style slogan \u2013 was used as a refrain among the speakers, to huge cheers.\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph-elevate inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cmf8bmza3000x3b6ng67ibnkf@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            Before last year\u2019s general election, Farage said the results were a foregone conclusion and that the true fight would be the next vote. He proclaimed Reform as the UK\u2019s \u201creal opposition.\u201d\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph-elevate inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cmf8fl9z700163b6nq7befvau@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            Starmer could have rebutted this, pointing to the Conservatives\u2019 vastly more numerous 121 seats. But this spring, he said Farage is the \u201creal opposition,\u201d elevating Reform from outsider status to Labour\u2019s main rival.\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph-elevate inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cmf8fl9z700173b6nmqvbgeg2@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            Since then, Labour has appeared to dance to Reform\u2019s tune. Starmer has taken a tougher stance on immigration, posting on social media about measures he is taking to deter illegal arrivals.\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph-elevate inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cmf8fl9z700183b6nybx930ft@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            In attempting to attract Reform voters, Labour risks alienating its own progressive base, Anand Menon, a professor of European politics at King\u2019s College London, told CNN.\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph-elevate inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cmf8fl9z700193b6ntmmc61hv@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            \u201cImmigration now being the top concern of the British voter is not a good thing for Labour. It\u2019s only a good thing for Nigel Farage,\u201d he said.\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph-elevate inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cmf8fl9z7001a3b6nopmwc9we@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            \u201cIt looks a bit like the tail is wagging the dog,\u201d he warned. \u201cIt looks a bit like Labour doesn\u2019t have any principles.\u201d\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph-elevate inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cmf8fl9z7001b3b6nbnl38r3h@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            For some voters, this helps reinforce Farage\u2019s central appeal: his authenticity. \u201cHe says it like it is,\u201d said one Reform member at the conference. \u201cHe\u2019s a real bloke,\u201d said another.\n    <\/p>\n<p>       <img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/09\/gettyimages-2233957509.jpg\" alt=\"An advert on a nearby bus stop in Birmingham criticizes Farage's anti-immigrant rhetoric.\" class=\"image_large__dam-img image_large__dam-img--loading\" onload=\"this.classList.remove('image_large__dam-img--loading')\" onerror=\"imageLoadError(this)\" height=\"1000\" width=\"1500\" loading=\"lazy\"\/><\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph-elevate inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cmf8bn8qm00133b6n61zgr0vi@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            With only a small bridgehead in Westminster, Reform has just a few higher-profile politicians to roll out. There\u2019s Lee Anderson, a burly former miner convinced Britain has \u201cgone soft.\u201d There\u2019s the more polished Zia Yusuf, the party\u2019s former chairman, now head of Reform\u2019s Trump-style \u201cDepartment of Government Efficiency.\u201d And there\u2019s Andrea Jenkyns, the mayor of Greater Lincolnshire, who arrived on stage singing a song she wrote herself, \u201cInsomnia.\u201d (Labour has been giving her \u201csleepless nights,\u201d she explained.)\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph-elevate inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cmf8flu42001i3b6n7s86vll1@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            But the conference still feels like a one-man band. Everyone is here for \u201cNigel,\u201d one of those rare politicians the British public feel they know on a first-name basis.\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph-elevate inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cmf8flu42001j3b6n9ed7xfu2@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            While everything seems to be going \u201cNigel\u2019s\u201d way, he is entering uncharted territory. It took Farage eight attempts \u2013 and 30 years \u2013 to win a seat in Westminster. His ability to accept his losses and return each time, wounds thoroughly licked, makes him what many Britons call a \u201cgood sport.\u201d\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph-elevate inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cmf8flu42001k3b6nsvmwtbn9@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            But if Farage is a good loser, he is also a terrible winner. Since his Brexit dream came true, he has been miserable about it. His politics feed on grievance, on railing against \u201cthe establishment\u201d \u2013 what happens if he becomes it?\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph-elevate inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cmf8flu42001l3b6n4tm6i276@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            Already, Farage has made bold promises he may struggle to keep. He pledged in his speech to \u201cstop the boats\u201d bringing asylum seekers to England\u2019s shores \u201cwithin two weeks of winning government.\u201d Economists warn his low-tax, high-spend program would spook the bond markets.\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph-elevate inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cmf8flu42001m3b6n2ji6vycr@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            But for the Reform members, those fears are for another day. At last, they feel Britain has a politician with a bit of agency. While the more technocratic Starmer risks presiding over a \u201ccomputer says no\u201d government, said Tryl, the pollster, Reform \u201cis the party of can \u2013 we can control our borders, we can tackle crime, we can cut your taxes and get rid of (government) waste.\u201d\n    <\/p>\n<p>       <img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/09\/gettyimages-2233867030.jpg\" alt=\"Farage told the conference he offers the \" last=\"\" chance=\"\" to=\"\" britain.=\"\" class=\"image_large__dam-img image_large__dam-img--loading\" onload=\"this.classList.remove('image_large__dam-img--loading')\" onerror=\"imageLoadError(this)\" height=\"1000\" width=\"1500\" loading=\"lazy\"\/><\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph-elevate inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cmf8flu42001n3b6nv20j4b52@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            There was a stark end-of-days feel to the conference. The members seemed united in two beliefs: Britain is broken, and only \u201cNigel\u201d can fix it.\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph-elevate inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cmf8flu42001o3b6nnxrt8qxz@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            Once she finished singing, Jenkyns asked the exultant crowd to stand and chant in unison: \u201cNigel will be prime minister. Reform will save Britain.\u201d\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph-elevate inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cmf8flu42001p3b6nuiz85upl@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            It\u2019s a sentiment Farage is only too happy to fan.
