\u201cSearch and rescue operations are ongoing at the most heavily damaged residential building in the Sviatoshynskyi district. There may still be people trapped under the rubble.\u201d<\/p>\n

Major Russian oil pipeline struck overnight, Ukraine\u2019s military claims<\/p>\n

Ukraine\u2019s military claimed it attacked a major oil pipeline in Russia overnight, setting fire to a pumping station in the Bryansk region. <\/p>\n

The Druzhba pipeline carries oil from eastern Russia via Belarus to European countries including Hungary and the Czech Republic.<\/p>\n

Robert Brovdi, the head of the \u201cMadyar\u2019s Birds\u201d aerial forces unit, posted a video on the messaging app Telegram and claimed that the drone strike had caused \u201ccomprehensive fire damage\u201d to an oil pump.<\/p>\n

Ukraine\u2019s military said the LVDS 8-N facility \u201cis of strategic importance for ensuring the transportation of oil products for the Russian occupation army\u201d. The general staff of the armed forces said: \u201cNumerous hits were recorded, followed by a fire in the area of \u200b\u200b\u200b\u200bthe pumping station and the tank farm.\u201d<\/p>\n

Russia has not yet commented on the reports.<\/p>\n

The very centre of Kyiv is heavily protected by anti-aircraft guns from Russian strikes but this morning one missile slipped though and struck the Cabinet of Ministers building, the seat of Ukraine\u2019s government.<\/p>\n

On the road leading to building, passersby walk their dogs and race past on electric scooters. Entry to this government quarter is blocked and anti-tank obstacles line the pavement. High above a helicopter circles and joins the efforts to extinguish the blaze.<\/p>\n

The bodies of the 32-year-old woman and the infant were recovered from the rubble after a nine-storey building in the Sviatoshynskyi district was partially destroyed overnight.<\/p>\n

Tymur Tkachenko, head of the city\u2019s military administration, said the baby\u2019s father suffered serious injuries.<\/p>\n

Homes were also damaged in the Darnytskyi district. \u201cEnemy drones flew into ordinary people, into ordinary apartments \u2014 right into the windows,\u201d Tkachenko said in a post on Telegram<\/p>\n

First lady offers condolences to victims<\/p>\n

Olena Zelenska, Ukraine\u2019s first lady, said \u201ca record-breaking 800 drones flew at peaceful cities, residential buildings and infrastructure.\u201d<\/p>\n

In a social media post, President Zelensky\u2019s wife said that \u201conce again\u201d Russian strikes \u201ctook innocent lives\u201d.<\/p>\n

President Zelenksy condemned the attacks as \u201ca deliberate crime and a prolongation of the war.\u201d<\/p>\n

He called for more sanctions on Russia and urged Western leaders to implement the plan agreed at Thursday\u2019s meeting of the \u201cCoalition of the Willing\u201d in Paris.<\/p>\n

Overnight air attack is Russia\u2019s largest of the war<\/p>\n

Russia launched its largest air assault of the war on Ukraine overnight, killing a young woman and an infant and hitting a key government building in Kyiv for the first time.<\/p>\n

The Ukrainian air force said the attack involved 810 drones and 13 cruise and ballistic missiles, targeting Kyiv, Dnipro, Kharkiv, Kremenchuk, Odesa and other cities.<\/p>\n

Smoke was seen rising above the Maidan square in the centre of the capital, as the Cabinet of Ministers building near Ukraine\u2019s parliament caught fire.<\/p>\n

Yulia Svyrydenko, Ukraine\u2019s new prime minister, said: \u201cYes for the first time as a result of an enemy attack the building of the cabinet of ministers was damaged. The ceiling and upper floors,\u201d she said. \u201cWe can repair buildings but we cannot replace lives lost.\u201d<\/p>\n
