There was a big surprise for viewers watching coverage of the Great North Run <\/a>on Sunday, when Gabby Logan, the presenter who has been at the helm for years, was nowhere to be seen, But her more than capable replacement was someone who is no stranger to athletics fans.<\/p>\n A keen Newcastle United fan, popular host Gabby <\/a>has been the BBC<\/a> anchor for the famous Newcastle to South Shields<\/a> race for as long as many viewers can remember, with her always at the start line just outside of Newcastle city centre<\/a>, before whizzing down to the coast to take charge of coverage from the finish line as well. Gabby has often spoken of her pride in the Great North Run and how she loved to be part of it all, so it came as bit of shock to the millions who tuned into BBC One at 10am on Sunday, that she wasn’t there.<\/p>\n Gabby has been on screen plenty of times over the last few weeks, to host all the action from the Women’s Rugby World Cup, which is most likely the reason that she hasn’t been able to take on her usual Great North Run role. However, there was someone more than qualified to step into her shoes, with the presenting job being handed to Jeanette Kwakye, the former Team GB sprinter who herself has been at the GNR on numerous occasions as part of the BBC broadcast team.<\/p>\n On Saturday, Jeanette was delighted to learn that a figure of her had been included on an elaborate Tyne Bridge stricture that two men would be carrying as they did the Great North Run in this year.<\/p>\n Rather than making the trip up to Tyneside for the Great North Run this year, on Saturday, Gabby took charge of a full day of BBC coverage of the Women’s Rugby World cup, with it kicking off at 11.45am and staying on air all the way until 7.20pm, as matches included England v Australia and Wales v Fiji.<\/p>\n We have a dedicated newsletter for What\u2019s On news and reviews.
