However, do not expect Hoeneß to hop off the bandwagon just yet.

“We all know things didn’t go so well (against Slovakia). But I’d rather lose the first one than lose the important ones later. Of course, he (Nagelsmann) is still the right one. We shouldn’t throw everything after one game. I’m convinced we’ll play better tonight. We should talk more about football in Germany, and not only transfers, transfers, transfers. If we do that then we’ll play better,” Hoeneß said during an appearance on SPORT1-Doppelpass (as captured by @iMiaSanMia).

Hoeneß makes an interesting point about the problems that German football is facing with player development. It also does not help when some of the best and most sought-after German players leave the Bundesliga early in their career.

Yup, Germany has some problems to fix.

Hoeneß, though, does think Nagelsmann can help himself by settling in on a starting lineup (an issues the coach had at Bayern Munich).

”I’m a bit old-fashioned. Today’s coaches change so much. We never play with the same lineup. They [coaches] also switch things around a lot during the game, for example, from a back four to a back three. I don’t understand that at all,” Hoeneß remarked.

Bayern Munich is on break and the German national team got off to a bad start in this round of World Cup qualifiers.
