He never managed a single minute of first-team action for Celtic.<\/p>\n

But Sam Wardrop<\/a> insists just being at the club during Brendan Rodgers\u2019 <\/a>first spell in charge left him with standards that will last a lifetime.<\/p>\n

The youngster was captain of the Hoops side that beat Rangers in the 2017 Youth Cup Final at Hampden.<\/p>\n

His only year as a fully-fledged first-team member was spent on loan at Dumbarton<\/a> before Rodgers gave him the news, in summer 2018, he wouldn\u2019t be offered a new contract.<\/p>\n

But Wardrop, who went on to Dundee United<\/a>, Dumbarton, Airdrie and Swedish side Ljungskile SK, will forever be grateful to the Northern Irishman.<\/p>\n

He said: \u201cBrendan told me there wouldn\u2019t be any more contracts.<\/p>\n

“I was expecting it because there were three or four right-backs in the team.<\/p>\n

\u201cI had a couple of meetings with Rodgers and even him giving me time and space was something he didn\u2019t need to do.<\/p>\n

\u201cThat\u2019s something that\u2019s always stuck with me, just in terms of how to respect and treat people.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019d imagine it\u2019s still the exact same. It\u2019s probably one of the best environments I\u2019ve been in.<\/p>\n

\u201cEven though I wasn\u2019t directly part of the squad, being in the same building, training ground and having conversations with him.. he\u2019s just got high standards and I took a lot of those lessons moving on in life.<\/p>\n

\u201cYou have to have high standards if you want to succeed in anything. I loved my time at Celtic.<\/p>\n

\u201cI wouldn\u2019t say I\u2019ve hung up the boots.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m 27 and not playing to pursue a career, I\u2019m playing for the joy of it.\u201d<\/p>\n
