{"id":40643,"date":"2025-04-22T08:58:08","date_gmt":"2025-04-22T08:58:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/40643\/"},"modified":"2025-04-22T08:58:08","modified_gmt":"2025-04-22T08:58:08","slug":"dcc-shares-fall-as-e1-22bn-healthcare-sale-price-shy-of-hopes-the-irish-times","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/40643\/","title":{"rendered":"DCC shares fall as \u20ac1.22bn healthcare sale price shy of hopes \u2013 The Irish Times"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"c-paragraph\">DCC, the energy to technology distribution and services group, saw its shares fall in London on Thursday as the \u00a31.05 billion (\u20ac1.22 billion) achieved in a deal to sell its healthcare unit fell short of expectations. <\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall\">The Dublin-based, but London-listed group is selling the unit to HealthCo Investment, which is owned by funds run or advised by London-based private equity firm Investindustrial Advisors, it said in a statement on Tuesday. <\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall\">The planned deal is on a cash-free, debt-free basis and is subject to various regulatory approvals. It will involve a cash consideration of \u00a3945 million, with \u00a3130 million deferred and will be received within two years.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall\">Leases, taxes owning and other liabilities transferring with the healthcare unit bring the total enterprise value of the transaction to \u00a31.05 billion. <\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall\">A number of analysts had expected the healthcare business to achieve between \u00a31.3 billion and \u00a31.6 billion. Shares in DCC fell as much as 3.9 per cent in early trading in London. <\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall\">Goodbody Stockbrokers analyst Ken Rumph had forecast a figure at the top of the range. However, he said the most important fact for investors is that a deal has been reached, as DCC seeks to focus on its energy division. <\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall\">\u201cGiven the market backdrop, we are encouraged that DCC have managed to get this deal across the line ahead of the June schedule despite market conditions worsening daily,\u201d said Mr Rumph.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall\">Financial markets have been in turmoil over the past month amid concerns about US president Donald Trump\u2019s protectionist trade policies. <\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall\">DCC, founded in 1976 by businessman Jim Flavin as a provider of venture capital for start-ups before floating almost two decades later, revealed in November it was abandoning its conglomerate roots with a plan to sell its healthcare division and review \u201cstrategic options\u201d for its technology business, in order to focus on its energy unit.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall\">DCC is seeking to boost the technology unit\u2019s profitability before selling it. <\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall\">Chief executive Donal Murphy has said the group believes that its energy business \u2013 now by far its largest division \u2013 and related opportunity in energy transition presents the largest growth opportunity available to the group.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall\">\u201cThe disposal of DCC Healthcare is a material step in simplifying DCC\u2019s operations and focusing on our high growth, high return, energy business. Our strategy will continue to build DCC as a market-leading multi-energy business,\u201d said Mr Murphy on Tuesday. <\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall\">\u201cThe profitable sale creates immediate value for our shareholders, and we are confident that Investindustrial will take DCC Healthcare forward in the best long\u2010term interests of its employees, customers and suppliers.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall\">The distribution and services conglomerate, which sells everything from catheters to hospitals to audiovisual equipment to events companies, hired JP Morgan at the time to preparation the healthcare division for sale. <\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall\">DCC Healthcare is made up of two businesses: DCC Vital, which sells medical products and devices to doctors and hospitals; and DCC Health &amp; Beauty Solutions which focuses on developing and manufacturing nutritional supplements such as vitamin gummies and beauty products for brand owners.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall\">DCC reiterated that it expects to return surplus cash generated from the healthcare business sale to shareholders, while maintaining a strong, investment-grade balance sheet.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall\">In the year ended 31 March 2024, DCC Healthcare recorded revenue of \u00a3859.4 million and adjusted operating profit of \u00a388.1 million.
