style=\"display:none\">Families needed to have more conversations about household finances, he said. <\/p>\n<p class=\"VYEVUgvTMz\" style=\"display:none\">\u201cIf it can become part of everyday conversations, people will naturally become more savvy.\u201d <\/p>\n<p class=\"VYEVUgvTMz\" style=\"display:none\">The recent report emerged from a Partners Life-commissioned survey, conducted in July, of more than 1000 adults living in New Zealand. <\/p>\n<p class=\"VYEVUgvTMz\" style=\"display:none\">Other findings included: <\/p>\n<ul class=\"article__unordered_list\">\n<li>37% rate their financial literacy as average or below, with some giving themselves a failing grade.<\/li>\n<li>44% have relied on credit or buy now, pay later services to make ends meet. <\/li>\n<li>54% report stress or lost sleep because of financial worries. <\/li>\n<li>76% have never accessed professional financial literacy training. <\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p class=\"VYEVUgvTMz\" social services, said there should be more education at school, especially for Year 10-13 students. <\/p>\n<p class=\"VYEVUgvTMz\" style=\"display:none\">\u201cWhen they leave school, they\u2019re vulnerable to people. <\/p>\n<p class=\"VYEVUgvTMz\" style=\"display:none\">\u201cI was talking to someone the other day, who said when she first went to uni, the banks were outside campus ready to sign students up to credit cards they can\u2019t afford.\u201d <\/p>\n<p class=\"VYEVUgvTMz\" style=\"display:none\">In April, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nzherald.co.nz\/northern-advocate\/news\/northland-youth-to-gain-from-new-financial-education-in-schools\/BYQIK5UCLVEMDINUMIQEZGYQAA\/\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.nzherald.co.nz\/northern-advocate\/news\/northland-youth-to-gain-from-new-financial-education-in-schools\/BYQIK5UCLVEMDINUMIQEZGYQAA\/\">the Government announced that financial education<\/a> would be taught in New Zealand schools from next year. <\/p>\n<p class=\"VYEVUgvTMz\" style=\"display:none\">Education Minister Erica Stanford said Year 1-10 students will be taught financial literacy to prepare them to make \u201cinformed financial decisions in a complex financial world\u201d. <\/p>\n<p class=\"VYEVUgvTMz\" style=\"display:none\">Sneddon encouraged Northlanders to budget wisely or seek help.<\/p>\n<p class=\"VYEVUgvTMz\" style=\"display:none\">\u201cEveryone can do their own budget \u2013 it\u2019s about human beings making the right decisions about how to
