Ian Poulter, also a key player from that 2012 European team, is on site at Cypress Point, watching his son, Luke, a member of this year\u2019s GB&amp;I squad. (Matt Kuchar, on the losing end at Medinah, is also at Cypress as a spectator along with his son, Cameron, a TCU commit.)<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAs someone who played a Walker Cup and wasn\u2019t able to quite get it done, and then to go on to play Ryder Cups and be able to beat the Yanks in their own backyard, nothing feels better,\u201d said McIlroy, who is set to play in his eighth Ryder Cup later this month at Bethpage Black.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Last night before the start of the <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/hashtag\/WalkerCup?src=hash&amp;ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">#WalkerCup<\/a>, the GB&amp;I team were sent a lengthy video from Rory McIlroy.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAs someone who played a Walker Cup and wasn\u2019t able to quite get it done, and then to go on to play Ryder Cups and be able to beat the Yanks in their own backyard, nothing\u2026 <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/khOqzpZhQV\">pic.twitter.com\/khOqzpZhQV<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Brentley Romine (@BrentleyGC) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/BrentleyGC\/status\/1964371749270933852?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">September 6, 2025<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>He then closed with this confident message: \u201cPlease beat them because I know we\u2019re going to beat them at Bethpage.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>It was a similar guarantee as two years ago in Rome, where McIlroy said this on Sunday evening after Europe\u2019s resounding victory at Marco Simone: \u201cI\u2019ve said this for the last probably six or seven years to anyone that will listen: I think one of the biggest accomplishments in golf right now is winning an away Ryder Cup.
