The new school will support Edinburgh\u2019s aim of net zero emissions by 2030.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">Passivhaus is a rigorous energy standard which reduces the amount of energy needed for heating by up to 90%. Designed to reduce energy consumption by up to 70% compared to traditional buildings and minimise carbon emissions, the school and its leisure facilities will serve both students and the wider Currie community for generations to come with daytime learning activities to evening access to shared facilities.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">Through Edinburgh Leisure\u2019s management, the school\u2019s leisure facilities provide high-quality fitness and recreational opportunities for the community.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/nen.press\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/09\/Credt_Kier-and-BK-Photography_Currie-High-School-120825-017-scaled.jpg?ssl=1\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"2560\" height=\"1706\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/09\/Credt_Kier-and-BK-Photography_Currie-High-School-120825-017-scaled.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-212781\"  \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p class=\"\"><strong>Edinburgh Leisure\u2019s Operations Director, Perrotine Orr said: \u201cWe\u2019re thrilled to be managing the leisure facilities at Currie High School, which represent a bold step forward in sustainable community infrastructure.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p class=\"\">\u201cThe local community will be able to access fitness classes, gym, swim and family fun sessions, out with school operating times. This Passivhaus-designed hub isn\u2019t just about energy efficiency \u2013 it\u2019s about creating welcoming, high-quality spaces where people of all ages can stay active, connect, and thrive.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"\"><strong>Facilities available to the public in community time include:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li class=\"\">A four-lane Passivhaus swimming pool<\/li>\n<li class=\"\">Four-court sports hall<\/li>\n<li class=\"\">Gym hall and fitness suite<\/li>\n<li class=\"\">Dance studio<\/li>\n<li class=\"\">3G pitch<\/li>\n<li class=\"\">Access to fitness classes, family swim sessions, and recreational activities<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/nen.press\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/09\/Credt_Kier-and-BK-Photography_Currie-High-School-120825-014-scaled.jpg?ssl=1\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"2560\" height=\"1706\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/09\/Credt_Kier-and-BK-Photography_Currie-High-School-120825-014-scaled.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-212782\"  \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p class=\"\">The building\u2019s Passivhaus design features airtight construction, triple glazing, mechanical ventilation with heat recovery, and sustainable materials such as cross-laminated timber in the pool block. These innovations support Edinburgh\u2019s goal of achieving net zero emissions by 2030.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">Currie Community High School also includes a wellness centre and wellbeing hub, STEM and expressive arts zones, and integrated support spaces \u2013 ensuring the campus meets the educational, emotional, and recreational needs of its students and community.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">The school opened to pupils earlier this term, following a multi-year design and construction process led by Kier North &amp; Scotland.
