Former Manchester United<\/a> midfielder Christian Eriksen<\/a> may be handed an opportunity to join a new club, with Bayer Leverkusen naming former Denmark manager Kasper Hjulmand had their new boss.<\/p>\n Eriksen has been without a club since leaving United at the end of his contract in the summer. Him being a free agent means that he can join a new club, despite the summer transfer window now being closed.<\/p>\n The Danish international has been linked with moves to several clubs<\/a> over the past couple of months. He was in talks with Championship side Wrexham – but is reported to have turned down the opportunity to join the Welsh club.<\/p>\n Eriksen has been maintaining his fitness by training with Swedish side Malmo. Being without a club means that he was left out of Denmark’s latest squad for their World Cup qualifiers against Scotland and Greece over the current international break.<\/p>\n The 33-year-old will be on the lookout for the right opportunity when it comes around, and a change at German club Bayer Leverkusen could potentially give him that opportunity.<\/p>\n Former United boss Erik ten Hag was dismissed as manager<\/a> of the club at the start of the month, with Leverkusen now announcing the appointment of Hjulmand as his replacement. The 53-year-old is most known for taking charge of Denmark and leading them to the European Championship semi-final in 2021, where they lost to England.<\/p>\n Eriksen was part of that Denmark squad, but he missed the rest of the tournament after suffering a cardiac arrest during the first game against Finland. After fully recovering, he made his comeback in 2022 and continued to be a regular for his nation.<\/p>\n Having worked closely with each other in the past on the international stage, Hjulmund could potentially turn to Eriksen as he looks to put his stamp on his new side. Leverkusen may also be on the lookout for additional quality in attacking midfield following the \u00a3116million summer sale of Florian Wirtz to Liverpool<\/a>.<\/p>\n The club did, though, complete the signings of Ibrahim Maza and Malik Tillman – who play in the position. Tillman made a positive impact on his debut for the club, scoring in the 3-3 draw with Werder Bremen.<\/p>\n With options in attacking midfield already in place, should he join Leverkusen, Eriksen may find regular starts hard to come by.
