Howard Stern is staying with SiriusXM despite recent retirement rumors<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The radio show host made his announcement Monday morning after initially trolling fans \u2014 with Andy Cohen\u2019s help \u2014 into believing he was out.<\/p>\n

Cohen, 57, first came on the air<\/a> and said, \u201cI know you\u2019re expecting a big announcement from Howard, and this is not how things were meant to go.\u201d<\/p>\n

He expressed regret over not doing a \u201ccleaner hand off\u201d and \u201ckind of winging it\u201d during the \u201csurreal morning.\u201d<\/p>\n

Cohen, who said the channel would be called \u201cAndy 100,\u201d noted that he couldn\u2019t \u201cpossibly fill [Stern\u2019s] void\u201d and was certain the 71-year-old would land another network soon.<\/p>\n

Stern subsequently took over, thanking Cohen for taking part in the gag.<\/p>\n

Instagram users commented their mixed feelings over the \u201crollercoaster of emotions,\u201d with one admitting to having \u201can entire mental breakdown and \u2026 bawling in [her] kitchen.\u201d<\/p>\n

Another praised Cohen for being \u201cvery good and believable\u201d amid the \u201cgreat bit.\u201d<\/p>\n

Others, however, blasted Stern for the \u201cnauseating \u2026 cry for attention\u201d \u2014 and some pointed out that he did \u201cthis bit before\u201d years ago with David Lee Roth.<\/p>\n

Stern\u2019s rep did not immediately respond to Page Six\u2019s request for comment.<\/p>\n

Reports surfaced last month that the shock jock\u2019s show was in jeopardy<\/a> as his $500 SiriusXM contract neared its end.<\/p>\n

However, the Daily Mail claimed the firing rumors were a \u201cdesperate hoax\u201d to boost Stern\u2019s ratings<\/a> and keep him \u201crelevant.\u201d<\/p>\n

Fans gushed over the gag \u2014 although some called Stern \u201cnauseating.\u201d Michael Zorn\/Invision\/AP<\/p>\n

Last month, news broke that Stern\u2019s future at the network was in jeopardy. Kevin Mazur<\/p>\n

SiriusXM\u2019s president, Scott Greenstein, said at a conference Wednesday that he \u201cwould love\u201d Stern to stay<\/a>.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt certainly has to make sense, but we feel pretty good that we\u2019ve done this before,\u201d he said last week. \u201cWe\u2019ll see where it goes.\u201d<\/p>\n

Additionally, SiriusXM CEO Jennifer Witz said at the time that they were \u201cconfident [they would] get to the right place\u201d with their \u201ccore\u201d talent.<\/p>\n
