At the pre-tournament Pro-Am on Wednesday, Lowry worked with the Make-A-Wish Foundation to make the dream of young D\u00e1ire Coyle come true.<\/p>\n
11-year-old Coyle from Louth is in remission from Acute Myeloid Leukaemia, and dreamt of walking down the fairway with Major champion Lowry.<\/p>\n
At the Irish Open, that dream was realised, with amazing video footage captured.<\/p>\n
READ HERE: <\/strong>Where Ireland’s World Cup Qualifying Campaign Stands After One Round<\/a><\/p>\n READ HERE: <\/strong>10 Irish Rugby Players That Represented Other Nations At Test Level<\/a><\/p>\n Shane Lowry makes amazing gesture at Irish Open<\/strong><\/p>\n Young D\u00e1ire Coyle was invited to play the 9th with Shane Lowry during Wednesday’s Pro-Am at the Irish Open.<\/p>\n Coyle is a remarkably strong young man, with his family helping him to fight Leukaemia since he was just six weeks old.<\/p>\n The 11-year-old said he was nervous before meeting Lowry, in a heart-warming footage released by the DP World Tour this weekend.<\/p>\n 11-year-old D\u00e1ire has a dream to walk the fairways with @ShaneLowryGolf<\/a>.<\/p>\n Shane wanted to make it happen this week in Ireland\u2026#AmgenIrishOpen<\/a> | @MakeAWish_ie<\/a> pic.twitter.com\/0feqOr0OS0<\/a><\/p>\n \u2014 DP World Tour (@DPWorldTour) September 6, 2025<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n Lowry chatted away with D\u00e1ire as they strolled down the fairway at the par four 9th hole, joking that Coyle was “like me” when the youngster admitted he does not love school.<\/p>\n The 2019 Open champion let D\u00e1ire pick his club for his approach shot, and young Coyle took Lowry’s putt on the green.<\/p>\n D\u00e1ire’s dad spoke to Lowry about his son’s battle with Leukaemia, saying that he thankfully seemed to be free of any setbacks.<\/p>\n It was a really wonderful interaction, and Shane Lowry said it had been a special thing to be a part of:<\/p>\n Obviously Make-A-Wish is a great organization and do a lot for kids. D\u00e1ire has recovered from Leukaemia and he’s out the other side, and he loves his golf.<\/p>\n Make-A-Wish is a great thing. We obviously are involved with them, and the Irish Open is involved with them every year, and what they do here is pretty cool.
