‘Ref cam’ is reportedly set to be trialled during Manchester City’s upcoming Premier League clash with Arsenal later this month.<\/p>\n
Ahead of the 2025\/26 campaign the Premier League<\/a>, working with refereeing governing body PGMOL, confirmed they would be testing cameras attached to the shirts of officials in select matches. The idea is to make this a permanent feature for the rest of the season.<\/p>\n Now The Daily Mail<\/a> write that City<\/a> vs Arsenal<\/a>, which is taking place on Sunday, September 21, at the Etihad Stadium<\/a>, will be one of those early select matches.<\/p>\n The Gunners lodged themselves inside the top four with two positive results before the September international break, whereas City’s two defeats mean they got caught in the pack trailing behind. Regardless, both Pep Guardiola<\/a> and Mikel Arteta will be hoping their respective teams are able to mount a sustained title challenge in this season’s Premier League.<\/p>\n In recent years clashes between the two clubs have been full-blooded with emotions heightened by what it could mean come the final kick of a ball in May.<\/p>\n A standout example might be the meeting that took place in Manchester on the same match week of last season<\/a>.<\/p>\n City and Arsenal could not be separated that day as the match ended 2-2 with numerous flashpoints observed. The first was Rodri’s anterior cruciate ligament injury (ACL), which kept the midfielder out for the rest of the season, before Riccardo Calafiori equalised for Arteta’s side.<\/p>\n The visitors took the lead on the stroke of half-time and also saw winger Leandro Trossard dismissed for accumulating two yellow cards.<\/p>\n As Arsenal sought to hold their lead, teenager Myles Lewis-Skelly received a booking despite not being on the field of play. He had gone to talk to goalkeeper David Raya, who moments later feigned injury.<\/p>\n After the final whistle, a fired-up Kyle Walker and John Stones called out the ‘dark arts’<\/a>. But it was the latter who had the final laugh, as Stones equalised deep into injury time.<\/p>\n During the celebrations Erling Haaland threw the ball at opposition defender Gabriel Magalhaes<\/a>, following the restart they collided into one another, then once the whistle had blown to signal the end of the game the Norwegian striker continued in arguments with Arsenal’s team.<\/p>\n So, television viewers are set to get an extra angle of the madness that ensues in the next clash between the two rivals with ref cam.<\/p>\n The images are made available for broadcast as replays but aren’t used as live images.
