{"id":408699,"date":"2025-09-08T21:04:09","date_gmt":"2025-09-08T21:04:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/408699\/"},"modified":"2025-09-08T21:04:09","modified_gmt":"2025-09-08T21:04:09","slug":"the-supreme-court-is-trumps-partner-in-crimes-against-america","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/408699\/","title":{"rendered":"The Supreme Court Is Trump\u2019s Partner in Crimes Against America"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-line-height-copy  lrv-a-font-body-l   \">\n\t<a href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/t\/donald-trump\/\" id=\"auto-tag_donald-trump\" data-tag=\"donald-trump\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Donald Trump<\/a> inflicted plenty of damage on the United States over the course of his first four years in office, but the most enduring blow may have been his radicalization of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/t\/supreme-court\/\" id=\"auto-tag_supreme-court\" data-tag=\"supreme-court\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Supreme Court<\/a>. He appointed not one, not two, but three conservative justices, all of whom were hand-selected by right-wing activists.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-line-height-copy  lrv-a-font-body-l   \">\n\tThe remade court quickly paid dividends, issuing decisions overturning Roe v. Wade and granting Trump immunity from prosecution for acts committed while president. Now, it\u2019s actively enabling the restored president\u2019s fascist regime.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-line-height-copy  lrv-a-font-body-l   \">\n\tThe conservative justices have already <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/politics\/politics-news\/supreme-court-trump-birthright-citizenship-case-1235373903\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">made it harder<\/a> for judges to shut down Trump\u2019s lawlessness and overtly unconstitutional orders \u2014 such as his effort to eliminate the constitutional guarantee to birthright citizenship \u2014 and keeps allowing him to fire ostensibly <a href=\"https:\/\/www.politico.com\/news\/2025\/07\/23\/supreme-court-consumer-product-safety-firings-00472292\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">independent regulators<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.scotusblog.com\/2025\/09\/the-status-of-trumps-rifs\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">government workers<\/a> en masse without any basis. Worse yet, the court has <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/politics\/politics-news\/trump-south-sudan-deportations-immigrants-supreme-court-1235379372\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">decided<\/a> that Trump can arbitrarily deport immigrants to third-party countries to which they have no ties, even to exceedingly dangerous countries like South Sudan, with little opportunity to challenge the government\u2019s decisions.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-line-height-copy  lrv-a-font-body-l   \">\n\tOn Monday, the Supreme Court issued perhaps its most profoundly un-American ruling yet, allowing Trump\u2019s masked immigration thugs to indiscriminately stop people on the streets because they are speaking Spanish or working as day laborers in the construction industry, so Trump officials can check their citizenship status and add more victims to the administration\u2019s churning deportation machine.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-line-height-copy  lrv-a-font-body-l   \">\n\tThe court continued to allow Trump to ax independent regulators on Monday, as well, with Chief Justice John Roberts <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cbsnews.com\/news\/trump-ftc-commissioner-supreme-court-john-roberts\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">temporarily greenlighting<\/a> the president\u2019s ability to fire Rebecca Slaughter, a member of the Federal Trade Commission. Slaughter\u2019s lawsuit over her termination will continue.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-line-height-copy  lrv-a-font-body-l   \">\n\tJust a few months ago, it looked like the Supreme Court \u2014 even with its Trump-picked conservative supermajority \u2014 might try to rein in some of Trump\u2019s most authoritarian impulses. The court reiterated that Trump had to respect immigrants\u2019 right to due process before summarily shipping them to a foreign gulag, and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/politics\/politics-news\/supreme-court-trump-facilitate-return-kilmar-abrego-garcia-1235315109\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">ordered the administration<\/a> to bring back Kilmar Abrego Garcia, the Maryland man it illegally deported to a notorious mega-prison in El Salvador.<\/p>\n<p>\t\tEditor\u2019s picks<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-line-height-copy  lrv-a-font-body-l   \">\n\tBut after Trump and his administration for months refused to comply with the Supreme Court\u2019s order regarding Abrego Garcia, and as Trump and his team have led a blistering PR campaign against judges who rule against them, the conservative justices have changed their tune. They are now not merely acting as his lapdogs, but his accomplices in a spree of crimes against the American people and all else who reside here.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-line-height-copy  lrv-a-font-body-l   \">\n\tThe Supreme Court has issued <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/politics\/political-commentary\/trump-supreme-court-shadow-docket-emergency-agenda-1235394694\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">an unprecedented number of rulings<\/a> from <a href=\"https:\/\/www.npr.org\/2025\/07\/15\/nx-s1-5467736\/the-supreme-courts-majority-has-been-issuing-some-rulings-with-no-written-opinion\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">its \u201cshadow docket,\u201d<\/a> without the cases having been fully briefed or argued, that have paved the way for Trump to satisfy his most fascist urges. In many of these rulings, the conservative justices haven\u2019t bothered to explain to the public why they\u2019re aiding Trump\u2019s challenges to bedrock American rights, his immigration crackdown, or his sweeping efforts to consolidate power.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-line-height-copy  lrv-a-font-body-l   \">\n\tIn their recent media tours, conservative Justices Amy Coney Barrett and Brett Kavanaugh have defended the court\u2019s shadow docket decisions, and the president\u2019s reliance on them, as basically normal.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-line-height-copy  lrv-a-font-body-l   \">\n\tBarrett, who\u2019s currently hawking a book, said last week that the justices \u201cdon\u2019t get to pick the track that a case is on when it arrives to us,\u201d and downplayed the court\u2019s birthright citizenship decision.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-line-height-copy  lrv-a-font-body-l   \">\n\t\u201cIn that case, we did not have the birthright citizenship question before us,\u201d Barrett told Bari Weiss of The Free Press. \u201cThe only issue that the government sought emergency relief on was the question of whether district courts could enter these things that are called universal injunctions.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\t\tRelated Content<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-line-height-copy  lrv-a-font-body-l   \">\n\tThe court\u2019s decision limiting universal injunctions \u2014 in a case involving Trump\u2019s effort to delete the right to citizenship of those born on U.S. soil, which is enshrined in the 14th Amendment to the U.S. Constitution \u2014 was, of course, a boon to the president\u2019s efforts to enact his authoritarian agenda.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-line-height-copy  lrv-a-font-body-l   \">\n\tKavanaugh, for his part, suggested the shadow docket should instead be called the \u201cinterim docket,\u201d and that presidents have sought emergency relief at the Supreme Court on a \u201ctotally bipartisan\u201d basis.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-line-height-copy  lrv-a-font-body-l   \">\n\tUnsaid is the fact that the Trump administration <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nbcnews.com\/politics\/supreme-court\/supreme-court-trump-cases-federal-judges-criticize-rcna221775\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">has rushed<\/a> to the Supreme Court for such emergency relief far more often than his predecessors \u2014 and the president is <a href=\"https:\/\/www.stevevladeck.com\/p\/177-the-not-so-interim-docket\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">experiencing<\/a> never-before-seen levels of success in such cases.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-line-height-copy  lrv-a-font-body-l   \">\n\tKavanaugh did kindly explain his vote regarding the administration\u2019s stop, frisk, and deport strategy. He wrote in a concurring opinion that the following conditions \u201ctaken together can constitute at least reasonable suspicion of illegal presence in the United States\u201d and thus justify the policy: \u201cthat there is an extremely high number and percentage of illegal immigrants in the Los Angeles area; that those individuals tend to gather in certain locations to seek daily work; that those individuals often work in certain kinds of jobs, such as day labor, landscaping, agriculture, and construction, that do not require paperwork and are therefore especially attractive to illegal immigrants; and that many of those illegally in the Los Angeles area come from Mexico or Central America and do not speak much English.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-line-height-copy  lrv-a-font-body-l   \">\n\tHe argued this is no big deal: \u201cImportantly, reasonable suspicion means only that immigration officers may briefly stop the individual and inquire about immigration status,\u201d he wrote. \u201cIf the person is a U. S. citizen or otherwise lawfully in the United States, that individual will be free to go after the brief encounter.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-line-height-copy  lrv-a-font-body-l   \">\n\tSpeaking with Weiss, Barrett argued that America isn\u2019t experiencing a constitutional crisis.<\/p>\n<p>\t\tTrending Stories<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-line-height-copy  lrv-a-font-body-l   \">\n\t\u201cI think the Constitution is alive and well,\u201d she said, adding: \u201cI don\u2019t think that we are currently in a constitutional crisis. I think that our country remains committed to the rule of law.
