Apple\u2019s \u2018Awe dropping\u2019 September event is just a few days away<\/a>, taking place on Tuesday, September 9th<\/a>. One of the wildcard products that we might see this Tuesday is AirTag<\/a> 2. You may wonder, what\u2019s so exciting about a new version of the AirTag<\/a>? Well, there\u2019s a couple of noteworthy upgrades to keep your eyes peeled for.<\/p>\n What\u2019s new with AirTag 2<\/p>\n AirTag<\/a> initially debuted in April 2021 at Apple\u2019s \u2018Spring loaded event\u2019, meaning the product is coming up on five years old. Apple has some cool upgrades in the pipeline for the next generation model, hitting on many important issues that the initial model had:<\/p>\n With the new Ultra Wideband chip, AirTag<\/a> 2 will support triple the range with precision finding. Currently, the feature works 10-30 meters away. It could work from 30-90 meters away with the next model, allowing you to find exactly where your AirTag is from an even greater distance.<\/p>\n In the past, people have also modified current AirTags to disable the speaker, allowing the AirTag<\/a> to easily be used for stalking without being able to alert the victim with a noise. Apple has since made software enhancements<\/a> so users can get notified, but speaker removal still creates a concern. AirTag 2 should address that.<\/p>\n It also shouldn\u2019t be changing in design, so existing AirTag accessories<\/a> should still work even if you decide to buy an AirTag<\/a> 2.<\/p>\n More details<\/p>\n AirTag 2 isn\u2019t a for certain launch for this Tuesday\u2019s Apple event, though it is highly likely. According to previous reports, the product has been \u2018nearly ready\u2019 for ages, so Apple could announce it whenever it sees fit. Given how this accessory relies heavily on the iPhone, launching at the iPhone event seems the most likely.<\/p>\n In any case, though \u2013 it could launch a bit later in the year. We\u2019ll never know for sure, though rumors have consistently stated that AirTag<\/a> 2 will launch in 2025.<\/p>\n In the meanwhile, if you would like to pick up the current AirTag<\/a>, there\u2019s never been a better time.
