Hollywood icon Susan Sarandon was a guest on the BBC One show on Monday ahead of her daunting new stage role<\/p>\n

Susan Sarandon has confessed she’s “terrified” of her latest acting venture during her stint on the most recent episode of The One Show.<\/p>\n

This week, hosts Angellica Bell and Roman Kemp spoke with the renowned Hollywood star alongside her new co-star, Andrea Riseborough, about their forthcoming theatrical production.<\/p>\n

Both will be appearing in Mary Page Marlowe, which chronicles the tale of one woman across 70 years brought to life by five different performers.<\/p>\n

The production not only presents the intimidating task of portraying five distinct interpretations of the same character, but it also pledges to captivate audiences by presenting it in the round.<\/p>\n

Before Mary Page Marlowe kicks off later this month at The Old Vic, Sarandon, 78, revealed to Bell and Kemp: “I’m terrified, actually”, reports Wales Online<\/a>.<\/p>\n

“Because we haven’t been on the stage yet. They tore the theatre apart to transition it, now the entire season will be in the round.”<\/p>\n

For those unfamiliar with theatre, in the round means the stage will be encircled by spectators from every direction, rather than simply facing outwards towards the crowd.<\/p>\n

Whilst Sarandon is an experienced stage performer in addition to her leading roles in masterpieces such as Thelma and Louise, the Tracy Letts-written play presents some distinctive obstacles.<\/p>\n

“So, you are surrounded by the audience, that’s cool,” Sarandon went on. “But that also means that there’s 300 people behind you at all times.”<\/p>\n

Her co-star Riseborough added: “I love being in the round, but it’s an acquired taste.<\/p>\n

“The way that they’re setting it up, I think it will be conducive to it being a really wonderful experience for the audience. It’s quite clever the way they’re setting it up, you’ll get to see a lot wherever you are.”<\/p>\n

The production also brings together Riseborough with her Matilda co-star Alisha Weir, who takes on the role of the youngest Mary.<\/p>\n

Rosy McEwen and Eleanor Worthington-Cox also feature as earlier versions of the character.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, viewers were thrilled to witness the star on the iconic green sofas.<\/p>\n

A third penned: “Love Susan Sarandon! Fantastic actress! Loved her in Dead Man Walking, Thelma and Louise and The Client.<\/p>\n

“Was watching her in an ep of Friends yesterday too. She’s stunning and never ages!”<\/p>\n
