have now received some additional information regarding the talks between Manchester United and Matheus Cunha.

The Red Devils are stepping up their pursuit of the Brazil international as his outstanding 2024/25 campaigns draws to a close, in which he has scored 16 goals and provided four assists in 31 appearances for Wolves.

His most recent outing incidentally came at Old Trafford as Wolves recorded a 1-0 win over Manchester United, a result which leaves Ruben Amorim stuck 14th in the Premier League and in no doubt that reinforcements must be made to the squad this summer.

Now, TBR Football have learned what the representatives of Matheus Cunha are assuring Manchester United as talks between the parties continue.

Manchester United told they do not have to pay Matheus Cunha release clause in full

Graeme Bailey – Chief Correspondent for TBR Football – has now been told some good news for Manchester United, ahead of a summer transfer window where finances will be limited.

We understand a primary aspect of Manchester United’s talks with the South American’s camp was to determine whether his release clause – worth just over £60m – will need to be paid in full, or whether Wolves will accept the fee in instalments.

Sources state that Manchester United have been assured they will not need to cough up the cash all in one payment, providing a significant boost to the Red Devils in their hopes of signing Cunha.

<img decoding="async" loading="lazy" width="1024" height="683" Wolverhampton Wanderers FC/Wolves via Getty Images

Should Wolves suddenly opt to demand the sum in full – however – it would not stop Manchester United, although it would require a larger financial commitment than those at Old Trafford had hoped.

In the meantime, other Premier League clubs are not out of the picture just yet.

TBR Football understand Nottingham Forest have been leading the race, and Cunha remains open to a move to the City Ground, with the Reds close to securing UEFA Champions League qualification.

Newcastle are also believed to have engaged in talks with the Brazilian’s camp, while Arsenal and Liverpool have been spoken to as well.

However, Arsenal and Liverpool have concerns over Cunha as a result of his disciplinary issues this season – missing four matches after being suspended due to aggressive behaviour.

Despite this, the Gunners and the Reds are believed to be set for further talks with the Wolves No.10’s representatives.

What Matheus Cunha has said about potential Wolves exit

The 25-year-old has already made it quite clear that he would like to leave Wolves this summer.

A superb strike by Matheus Cunha 😮‍💨 <a for titles at his next club, telling the Guardian: “Now, we’re close to achieving our goal (of staying up) but I’ve made it clear that I need to take the next step. I want to fight for titles, for big things. I have potential.”

Old Trafford might not be the place to do that just yet – Wolves are now level on points with Manchester United – but if Amorim can convince the Brazilian things will be different next season, a deal may materialise.

TBR Football have now received some additional information regarding the talks between Manchester United and Matheus Cunha.
