{"id":41024,"date":"2025-04-22T12:08:11","date_gmt":"2025-04-22T12:08:11","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/41024\/"},"modified":"2025-04-22T12:08:11","modified_gmt":"2025-04-22T12:08:11","slug":"ex-aussie-cricketer-michael-slater-sentenced-to-4-years-jail-but-set-to-walk-free","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/41024\/","title":{"rendered":"Ex-Aussie cricketer Michael Slater sentenced to 4 years jail, but set to walk free"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Former Australia test cricketer <a ref=\"dofollow\" data-ga-onclick=\"Inarticle articleshow link click#News#href\" href=\"https:\/\/m.economictimes.com\/topic\/michael-slater\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Michael Slater<\/a> has been sentenced to four years in prison after pleading guilty to <a ref=\"dofollow\" data-ga-onclick=\"Inarticle articleshow link click#News#href\" href=\"https:\/\/m.economictimes.com\/topic\/domestic-violence\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">domestic violence<\/a> charges but is set to be released on time already served.<\/p>\n<p> The 55-year-old Slater was sentenced Tuesday in <a ref=\"dofollow\" data-ga-onclick=\"Inarticle articleshow link click#News#href\" href=\"https:\/\/m.economictimes.com\/topic\/maroochydore\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Maroochydore<\/a> District Court, north of Brisbane in <a ref=\"dofollow\" data-ga-onclick=\"Inarticle articleshow link click#News#href\" href=\"https:\/\/m.economictimes.com\/topic\/queensland\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Queensland<\/a> state. The remainder of Slater&#8217;s sentence has been suspended for five years.<\/p>\n<p> Slater was taken into custody last year after his bail was refused on charges of unlawful stalking or intimidation, breaking into a dwelling with intent at night, common assault, assault occasioning bodily harm and choking or suffocation.<br \/>The offenses occurred between December 2023 and April last year. He was also charged with contravening a domestic violence order.<\/p>\n<p>Slater made his international debut for Australia in 1993 and played 73 test matches, scoring 5,312 runs at an average of almost 43. He also played 42 limited-overs internationals before retiring from professional cricket in 2004 and launching a career in television commentary.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"ET logo\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/04\/118783427.cms.png\" width=\"90%\"\/>Live Events<br \/> In 2022, Slater had charges of domestic violence dismissed on mental health grounds in a Sydney local court, but was ordered to undergo a 12-month treatment plan under the care of a doctor.
