{"id":410305,"date":"2025-09-09T11:31:13","date_gmt":"2025-09-09T11:31:13","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/410305\/"},"modified":"2025-09-09T11:31:13","modified_gmt":"2025-09-09T11:31:13","slug":"nonsense-celtic-statement-obliterated-as-simon-jordan-goes-for-the-jugular-over-numbers-used-in-uefa-argument","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/410305\/","title":{"rendered":"&#8216;Nonsense&#8217; Celtic statement obliterated as Simon Jordan goes for the jugular over numbers used in UEFA argument"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Hoops chiefs released a statement on Saturday night but it has been picked apart<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/09\/0_JS377136935.jpg\" alt=\"Simon Jordan on talkSPORT.\" loading=\"eager\"  \/>Simon Jordan(Image: TALKSPORT)<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\">Simon Jordan has hit out at <a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.dailyrecord.co.uk\/all-about\/celtic-fc\" target=\"_self\" aria-label=\"\" tabindex=\"0\" rel=\"noopener\">Celtic <\/a>for using UEFA\u2019s financial rules as part of their reason for not spending big during the transfer window.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\"><a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.dailyrecord.co.uk\/sport\/football\/football-news\/celtic-respond-fan-transfer-fury-35862272\" target=\"_self\" aria-label=\"\" tabindex=\"0\" rel=\"noopener\">The Parkhead club released a statement late on Saturday night<\/a> in a bid to appease fans left furious over their summer recruitment.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\">In a wide-ranging address, the Scottish Premiership champions highlighted the fact they \u201cmust adhere to our self-sustaining model&#8221; to preserve the future of the club and also to comply with <a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.dailyrecord.co.uk\/all-about\/uefa\" target=\"_self\" aria-label=\"\" tabindex=\"0\" rel=\"noopener\">UEFA<\/a>\u2019s financial regulations.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\">However, former Crystal Palace chairman Jordan dismissed that as completely irrelevant to Celtic\u2019s summer spending given the fact their healthy balance sheet means they are nowhere near breaching new restrictions introduced this summer.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\">UEFA\u2019s new financial regulations imposed in June this year means clubs can only spend 70 per cent of their revenue in areas including wages, transfers and agents&#8217; fees.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\">This Financial Sustainability Regulation (FSR) replaces the previous Financial Fair Play (FFP) rules which allowed clubs to spend up to \u20ac5million more than they earn during a three-year assessment period, with permitted losses for clubs rising from \u20ac30m to \u20ac60m.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\">Celtic\u2019s interim report released in February showed total revenue stood at \u00a383.5 million with the club&#8217;s profit before tax being \u00a343.9 million. Later this month they will publish their accounts for the year ending June 30, 2025, which will show an eye-watering turnover of more than \u00a3100m.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\">After the transfer window closed, <a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.dailyrecord.co.uk\/sport\/football\/football-transfer-news\/staggering-celtic-transfer-window-profit-35832452\" target=\"_self\" aria-label=\"\" tabindex=\"0\" rel=\"noopener\">Record Sport told how the the club only spent roughly \u00a313 million on player<\/a> arrivals despite around \u00a332m being brought in from player departures.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\">And Jordan, speaking on talkSPORT, said of the club breaking cover <a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.dailyrecord.co.uk\/sport\/football\/football-news\/celtic-sack-board-protestors-return-35871854\" target=\"_self\" aria-label=\"\" tabindex=\"0\" rel=\"noopener\">amid supporter protests<\/a>: \u201cThe challenges I have with their statement is that they\u2019re making UEFA\u2019s governing rules part of the reason they can\u2019t do certain things.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\">\u201cWell, Celtic made \u00a335m and \u00a311m profit the previous season so the \u00a360m losses they are allowed to have under UEFA sanctioning is irrelevant to this conversation. So when they use the fact they\u2019ve got to run their football sustainably &#8211; which I don\u2019t suggest they should\u2019t &#8211; and when they suggest there\u2019s certain restrictions on transfer fees and wages because of UEFA\u2019s governance, they\u2019re absolutely right. But what\u2019s that got to do with Celtic\u2019s position?<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\">\u201cCeltic are nowhere near the challenge of UEFA. UEFA allows them to lose 60 million euros every three years. Celtic have made 44 million euros profit over the last two years which means there\u2019s somewhere in the region of 110 million euros worth of difference &#8211; if not more &#8211; so I\u2019m not entirely sure why they feel the need to wheel that in because it\u2019s not true.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\">Celtic also said: \u201cTransfer activity attracts enormous attention and speculation, particularly across social media, and the mainstream media has commoditised the transfer window in its relentless search for content.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/09\/0_JS378570499.jpg\" loading=\"lazy\"  \/>Peter Lawwell and Michael Nicholson at Celtic Park <\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\">\u201cCeltic are nowhere near the challenge of UEFA. Of course it has. It\u2019s a main industry now, in terms of people talking about the content around transfer windows, and what\u2019s happening at football clubs. It\u2019s part and parcel of the business of show.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\">\u201cBut I am not blaming the media for the result (losing to Kairat Almaty in the Champions League qualifier).
