<\/p>\nA public safety operation is continuing in Craigavon following the discovery of “suspicious items\u201d in the Pinebank area on Monday evening which has resulted in residents being evacuated. <\/p>\n
A second alert was triggered after a PSNI patrol reported that an \u201cunknown item\u201d was thrown at their car in the Aldervale area in the early hours of Tuesday morning. <\/p>\n
Cordons are currently in place on the Tullygalley Road and the public has been urged to avoid the area. <\/p>\n
People have also been advised to avoid the Pinebank area where cordons remain in place.<\/p>\n
“A public safety operation is continuing in Craigavon,\u201d a PSNI spokesperson said. <\/p>\n
\u201cA security alert was declared in the Pinebank area on Monday evening after crews responding to a report from a member of the public discovered suspicious items.<\/p>\n
“A number of homes were subsequently evacuated and the area remains closed to the public this morning while the policing operation continues.<\/p>\n
\u201cAt around 2am a police patrol in Aldervale reported that an unknown item had been thrown at their vehicle. Extensive searches are being conducted in the wider area at present to ensure the area is safe for the public.<\/p>\n
\u201cOne man has been arrested and is currently in police custody assisting with enquiries.<\/p>\n
\u201cLocal police would like to thank the community for their patience and support as we work to make the area safe for everyone.\u201d<\/p>\n

Sinn F\u00e9in councillor Jude Mallon said \u201cmany residents have been forced to evacuate their homes\u201d.<\/p>\n
“I want to commend the local GAA club, \u00c9ire \u00d3g, and Brownlow Hub, who have opened their facilities to support those affected,” he added. <\/p>\n
The local representative has been on the ground, liaising with both the local community and the PSNI.<\/p>\n
He said the incident has caused \u201csignificant disruption\u201d to the local community.<\/p>\n
The situation remains ongoing, Mr Mallon said, as he asked the public to stay clear of the area until further updates are available.<\/p>\n
\u00c9ire \u00d3g G.A.C. Craigavon posted: \u201cDue to an ongoing incident in Pinebank this evening, the Social Club will remain open to residents who wish to avail of our facilities.<\/p>\n
