{"id":410602,"date":"2025-09-09T14:07:14","date_gmt":"2025-09-09T14:07:14","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/410602\/"},"modified":"2025-09-09T14:07:14","modified_gmt":"2025-09-09T14:07:14","slug":"ian-botham-cricket-legend-visits-moresby-hall-cumbria","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/410602\/","title":{"rendered":"Ian Botham: Cricket legend visits Moresby Hall, Cumbria"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>\n  England cricket legend Sir Ian Botham visited Moresby Hall on September 7 ahead of his show \u2018An Audience with Ian Botham\u2019 at The Carnegie Theatre in Workington.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  The 69-year-old treated the audience to stories from his illustrious career, including his memorable 1981 Ashes performance.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  Moresby Hall has hosted a number of celebrity guests in recent years with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.newsandstar.co.uk\/news\/24170642.nigel-farage-stays-moresby-hall-following-gb-news-broadcast\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Reform UK leader Nigel Farage<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.whitehavennews.co.uk\/news\/24163053.happy-mondays-star-bez-surprised-staff-moresby-hall-show\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Happy Mondays star Bez<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.whitehavennews.co.uk\/news\/24256949.celebrity-boxer-roman-fury-stays-moresby-hall-hotel-near-whitehaven\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">boxer Roman Fury<\/a> all paying a visit.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  Steph Eilbeck, owner of Moresby Hall, said: \u201cThey just keep coming! We didn\u2019t know he was coming until he arrived because he booked under another name.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  \u201cHe was lovely. He was really nice. Just a genuine person. He didn\u2019t sleep but he came and had lunch with us. He liked everything. I think we impressed them!\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  \u201cHe had a nice afternoon and said he was going to bring his wife and family back with him. He was up doing something at The Carnegie yesterday evening.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  \u201cHe was a nice guy. Seen as one of the greatest all-rounders of all-time, he scored over 5,000 Test runs for England, picking up 383 wickets as well.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  Through the 1980s, he was part of a golden generation of all-rounders in world cricket.
