{"id":410624,"date":"2025-09-09T14:18:12","date_gmt":"2025-09-09T14:18:12","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/410624\/"},"modified":"2025-09-09T14:18:12","modified_gmt":"2025-09-09T14:18:12","slug":"moon-blocks-satellite-views-of-sun-before-lunar-eclipse-photo-of-the-day-for-sept-9-2025","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/410624\/","title":{"rendered":"Moon blocks satellite views of sun before lunar eclipse photo of the day for Sept. 9, 2025"},"content":{"rendered":"<p id=\"2617ab90-1118-4233-ae3a-f11bfb46b293\">In early September 2025, skywatchers in parts of the Eastern Hemisphere were treated to a<a data-analytics-id=\"inline-link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.space.com\/15689-lunar-eclipses.html\" data-before-rewrite-localise=\"https:\/\/www.space.com\/15689-lunar-eclipses.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"> total lunar eclipse<\/a> as <a data-analytics-id=\"inline-link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.space.com\/54-earth-history-composition-and-atmosphere.html\" data-before-rewrite-localise=\"https:\/\/www.space.com\/54-earth-history-composition-and-atmosphere.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Earth <\/a>blocked the <a data-analytics-id=\"inline-link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.space.com\/58-the-sun-formation-facts-and-characteristics.html\" data-before-rewrite-localise=\"https:\/\/www.space.com\/58-the-sun-formation-facts-and-characteristics.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">sun<\/a>&#8216;s light from the <a data-analytics-id=\"inline-link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.space.com\/55-earths-moon-formation-composition-and-orbit.html\" data-before-rewrite-localise=\"https:\/\/www.space.com\/55-earths-moon-formation-composition-and-orbit.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">moon<\/a>. The eclipse occurred in the evening of <a data-analytics-id=\"inline-link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.space.com\/stargazing\/lunar-eclipses\/a-blood-moon-is-coming-heres-what-you-need-to-know-about-the-total-lunar-eclipse-on-sept-7\" data-before-rewrite-localise=\"https:\/\/www.space.com\/stargazing\/lunar-eclipses\/a-blood-moon-is-coming-heres-what-you-need-to-know-about-the-total-lunar-eclipse-on-sept-7\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Sept. 7<\/a> as the moon slipped into shadow and transformed into the infamous &#8220;<a data-analytics-id=\"inline-link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.space.com\/39471-what-is-a-blood-moon.html\" data-before-rewrite-localise=\"https:\/\/www.space.com\/39471-what-is-a-blood-moon.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">blood moon<\/a>&#8221; for a few minutes.<\/p>\n<p>Interestingly, <a data-analytics-id=\"inline-link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.space.com\/24839-satellites.html\" data-before-rewrite-localise=\"https:\/\/www.space.com\/24839-satellites.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">satellites<\/a> orbiting Earth saw something very, very different.<\/p>\n<p><a id=\"elk-5ec28b19-106d-46ec-97fc-1e5680d2aeaa\" data-url=\"\" href=\"\" data-hl-processed=\"none\"\/>What is it?<a id=\"elk-seasonal\" data-url=\"\" href=\"\" data-hl-processed=\"none\"\/><\/p>\n<p id=\"b70aae2c-ee29-4a78-8d59-5773d52cde6e-0\">Two of the weather satellites launched by the U.S. National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (<a data-analytics-id=\"inline-link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.space.com\/39333-noaa-goes-satellites.html\" data-before-rewrite-localise=\"https:\/\/www.space.com\/39333-noaa-goes-satellites.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">NOAA<\/a>) \u2014 Geostationary Operational Environmental Satellites (<a data-analytics-id=\"inline-link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.space.com\/goes-u-satellite-space-earth-weather-forecasts\" data-before-rewrite-localise=\"https:\/\/www.space.com\/goes-u-satellite-space-earth-weather-forecasts\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">GOES<\/a>) 18 and 19 (<a data-analytics-id=\"inline-link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.nesdis.noaa.gov\/our-satellites\/currently-flying\/goes-east-west\/noaas-goes-u\" target=\"_blank\" data-url=\"https:\/\/www.nesdis.noaa.gov\/our-satellites\/currently-flying\/goes-east-west\/noaas-goes-u\" referrerpolicy=\"no-referrer-when-downgrade\" data-hl-processed=\"none\" rel=\"noopener\">also known as<\/a> GOES West and GOES East) \u2014 witnessed not one but two <a data-analytics-id=\"inline-link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.space.com\/stargazing\/eclipses\" data-before-rewrite-localise=\"https:\/\/www.space.com\/stargazing\/eclipses\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">eclipses<\/a> the evening of Sept. 7.<\/p>\n<p>You may like<\/p>\n<p>These two satellites are part of NOAA&#8217;s larger mission to monitor Earth and <a data-analytics-id=\"inline-link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.space.com\/space-weather\" data-before-rewrite-localise=\"https:\/\/www.space.com\/space-weather\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">space weather<\/a> and study changes in <a data-analytics-id=\"inline-link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.space.com\/earths-atmosphere-and-potential-for-life-on-venus\" data-before-rewrite-localise=\"https:\/\/www.space.com\/earths-atmosphere-and-potential-for-life-on-venus\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Earth&#8217;s environment <\/a>in high resolution. This eclipse happened from 4:40 a.m. to 5:28 a.m. EDT (0840 to 0928 GMT) for GOES-18, and 12:34 am to 1:22 a.m. EDT ( 0434 to 0522 GMT) for GOES-19. Videos of this solar eclipse can be seen on the <a data-analytics-id=\"inline-link\" href=\"https:\/\/cimss.ssec.wisc.edu\/satellite-blog\/archives\/66693\" target=\"_blank\" data-url=\"https:\/\/cimss.ssec.wisc.edu\/satellite-blog\/archives\/66693\" referrerpolicy=\"no-referrer-when-downgrade\" data-hl-processed=\"none\" rel=\"noopener\">CIMSS Satellite Blog. <\/a><\/p>\n<p>Hours later, the lunar eclipse happened at 1:30 p.m. EDT (1730 GMT) in the Eastern Hemisphere.
